While driving with the top off in my coupe, the wind noise got me wondering what was causing the most turbulence. Well I found it and have it a little more quiet now. The top rear reciever sockets for the roof are a wind catch all. Ace had some chrome pushins for a 1" hole. $1.00/ea. Pushed them in, worked great, looks better than the open holes. Can be pulled out and put in the glove box when the top goes back on. This made a big difference in wind noise right behind your head. Just thought I would share.
It needs something ... can't hear yourself think with the top off. Much noisier than a convertiible ... but it's a good compromise in my opinion. I don't really care for a rag top.
Try the ventilation latches from Ecklers(or whoever else sells 'em.) One of my first purchases, and the most worthwhile. You don't have to batten down everything inside the damn car when you've got them on, reduces wind noise and drag by at least 25%, and gains about 30% more attention. I've had more people tell me, "Your hatch is open!" I tell them what it is and what it's for, and they respond with "Cool! Never heard of that before. Great idea!"
Has anyone tried those things that let you run with your rear hatch slightly open? I saw a couple of C4s with them recently, but haven't seen one used on a C5 yet.

That's funny. The guy right above you posted his experience with the hatch slightly opened at the same time you posted your question about leaving the hatch slightly opened.

There was a C5 from Jersey at Carlisle that had them on and he informed me they worked fine.
I am just waiting for a forum member to figure out how to do it yourself.

idea. I think I'll give 'em a try. I don't think I am ready to run with my rear hatch open yet, though

I don't know if it's the same kind of wind noise as my Vert, but I usually run with my windows up about 1.5 inches and the wind noise is cut down by more than half.
When I had a C4 I hated that wind turbulence so I bought a Windjammer from Ecklers for $149.00. It worked so good I left the top off almost all last winter after I got it in December.(I live on the Gulf Coast) I now have a convertible so I haven't checked to see if they are available for C-5s. I also had the hatch ventilation gizmo for my C-4. It worked ok in that it did reduce turbulence some but not near as much as the Windjammer. I found that its best use was if I parked the car in the sun with it locked up for a long period of time. I had the type that simply twisted on without a tool. There was a cheaper version available but it required a tool to install and remove.
Solution. Gun's N Roses, AC/DC, or Metallica, and crank it. Anybody tried the adapters that allow you to keep your hatch open about an inch? It is supposed to reduce turbulence.
That's the main reason I bought the Vert. Couldn't stand the noise at 5mph. My wife couldn't hear me speaking to her. The vert at 100mph you can talk like your standing still. My .02
