Default Infrequent / Sunday driver.

I have some physical problems that force me to drive my MY '03 Z06 infrequently, especially in the winter. Except for trips to Pittsburgh, PA from Columbus, OH and back about every six weeks, only from spring through fall, the car sits in the garage and never moves except on an occasional Sunday when the weather is dry and beautiful. It truly is a Sunday driver. OK friends what should I do or not do so I won't screw the car and / or tires up. I have had experiences in the past where my tires got flat spots and I had to buy new ones! Except for the Pittsburgh trips I probably put about 3000 to 4000 miles on the car a year. I do not cover it but do wash it frequently. At 61 I plan to be buried in this car so I want to do whatever I can to make it last as long as I do.....how ever long that might be!

I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT AFTER 66 REVIEWS(so far) OF MY POST NO ONE HAD ANY SUGGESTIONS FOR ME, especially, say, for the tires. And things like how long could I leave the car sit before I should drive it and for how many miles. The garage is heated but only barely. Ideas, thoughts, suggestions, directives would be appreciated, Thanks.

I put about 4000 miles a year on my Z and I have had no problems with flat spots . I also have a 1968 vette that only sees about 500 miles a year during the summer. For this car I leave a fan running in the garage, to keep the air circulating which keeps the garage dryer. I also put the car on jack stands and remove the wheels, to get the weight off the springs. I use a gas stabilizer in the tank. Those chemical drying packs are good to put in your interior and use a mouse poison or trap for the little rodents. Except for a light car cover that's my storage procedure.

During the winter when mine sits for a couple months, I just roll it back a few inches every week to avoid flatspots. Air the tires up a bit, like around 38 psi. And gas stabilizer is a must if it is going to sit for a few months. Vettes are so light, they roll pretty easy to just move it around a bit to avoid flatspots.

I've had Corvettes as "Sunday Drivers" for 25 years, never putting over 4-5000 miles per year on any and I've never had problems with flat spots. I do change the oil and filter at least once per year and flush the cooling system about every 18-24 months. In addition, make sure the tires maintain proper air pressure. Of course, suggestions like covering the car clean and keeping humidity down will help. Enjoy your Z, I know I enjoy mine. Best Vette yet!!!!

Buy something like an Accuguard battery maintainer. this connects to your battery and maintains the battery in tip-top shape but never overcharges it. I rarrely use my Z06 and find the battery voltage can drop quite significantly just doing nothing.
