I am thinking about gutting pre-cats. I want to know how much of a stinch it lets out if i was go gut them and how long does it smell when i start the car. Also what would be the process for gutting them. Any pics of people doing the process and stuff. How much louder does the exhaust get after gutting them?

The car gets louder and you will be smelling gas at stop lights if the wind is blowing your way. What about using high flow cats instead?

I am sorry I miss understood... pre-cats only... well then it may not be a problem for the smell after all... I was thinking along the lines of the 97-99 cars that only had one set of cats on them.. You can get High flow cats from these people here... http://exhaustproslinc.com/magpolstains.html

I gutted my pre-cats several years ago. No smell at all. I would go ahead and do it & not worry about any terrible smell. Just be sure to remove all of the pre-cat material before you reinstall the pipe. I cannot stress how important this is. After you do this, you will notice a more aggressive exhaust note and you shouldn't notice any bad smell. Hope this helps.
