Z06 Engine ID

Is the Z06 engine stamped with an ID# that identifies it as such?

Yes.

Of you probably want to know what it is. Buy the Black Book and it provides decoding for all model years. The eighth digit identifies the engine. S = LS6 engine. G = LS1 engine.

Buy the Black Book it is invaluable.

There is also an LS6 Plate on one of the components (not 100% sure offhand without looking though - think its on the throttle body cover but dont quote me yet ...

)

I own the black book, unfortunately it does not cover the 04 Z06 specs. However, the question was about engine identification not vin# identification.

The engine block is stamped with the VIN#.

The LS6 *ahem* badge on the TB is just a sticker.

What I should have included - the engine in question is supposedly a crate LS6 from general motors performance parts. What I am trying to verify if indeed it is an LS6 or LS1 clone.
