I just picked up my first vette. Thought it might look good to add a bra to it. Is this bad for the paint over time. And I don't see many pictures of forum members' cars with bras on. Is this not ? I don't want to look like a dork driving down the street. Any opinions?

First off, Welcome to CF and congrats on your ride! May you have miles of smiles and don't forget to wave!
I have a clear 3M bra on mine. It covers all areas which can be struck while the car is in motion (part of the hood, whole nose section, headlight covers, backs of mirrors, rocker panels). It's applied directly to the car (kinda like window tint film) , has no UV filter so the paint fades evenly. I've had mine over a year and I love it. It's a bit more than other bras, but once it's on, you don't have to worry. (Around $500 / installed)
Man! Does that sound like a sales pitch? I should get commission from these people! Hope this helps though!
I have the Speed Lingerie Bra and I love it. I mainly used it on road trips or on the way to a show - to keep the nose clean and bug free. The bra is expensive, but the quality and the lining material is far superior to the GM or Colgan bras. You get what you pay for.
We are going to be moving to Florida next year and I just had the 3M Clear Bra installed over the weekend. I was concerned about the Speed Lingerie bra getting wet while driving around in Florida - with sprinklers going off all over the place, all hours of the day.
I had the nose, headlight covers, front 1/3 of the hood, the forward part of the front fenders, the mirrors and the lower edge of each of the wheel wells done for $595.
The clear bra is almost invisible - I can see the line across the front of the hood, but the rest of the pieces are hardly noticeable at all.
I think that the Speed Lingerie would provide better protection than the clear bra to the front bumper in the event of a minor parking bump or from a flying stone, as the padding would absorb the impact. However, the clear bra has much greater coverage than the SL Bra and water has no effect on it whatsoever.
Anyway, that is my $.02. I just listed my Pewter Speed Lingerie Bra for sale in C5 parts for sale.

I've had the GM bra on my current car for almost four years with absolutely no problems with the paint. Sure helps keep rock chips and bugs off the front of the car. Easy to install and remove and does not flap at more than legal speeds. I use mine each time I go out in the car, regardless of whether it is a short or long trip. I do take it off though if the weather is bad.
I think they're ugly and would rather have a few stone chips that can be repainted with the money it costs for a stupid looking bra. I like the idea of the 3M plastic laminate though.
The bra should be used for trips only. I have used mine for almost 1.5 years with no problems. Just remember to remove it at night (if dew is called for), and once you remove it wash and wax the Corvette.
