Best way to sell a modded C5
What's the best way to sell a modded car? I know I won't get too much value for all the mods, but I'd be happy if I could at least get some of the value out of it. My C5 currently has around 33K miles and somewhere around $30K in mods. What kind of price do you guys think I could get for it? How should I go about selling it?

Expect to get about .30 on the dollar per mod. And that is saying its going to the right person. Its very hard to sell a highly modded car. Trust me I know cause of what I own. If it is in great cond. There is always Barret Jackson auction. You will get top dollar but its big money to put it in. 800 plus 10% of selling price.

Great looking Vette and awesome mods. I can't really help with how much your Vette is worth with all the mods. Quite honestly, you might be better off returning it to stock and selling your mods.

Modded cars are hard to sell for many reasons. The main one beng most people need a loan to buy one, and lenders have limits to a loan value for a given make/model/year car.
The other big thing is, most prospective buyers assume the car has been beaten and abused if it has major power adding mods.
As an example, Troy (kwik8racr) has been trying to get $45k for his unbelievable orange 422 monster for probably a year now, with no luck as of yet. If that's not a reasonable asking price, I don't know what is.
I looked at your mod list and don't see $30k worth of mods in your car.
Not necissarily doubting you, but I've spent about 22k myself in mods and know what things cost.
Honestly, if you got an offer of $35k for yours, take it.

Thanks. Problem is, a lot of the mods, I can't really take off. Any advice I can get is greatly appreciated. I'm OK with $0.30 on the mods. According to Edmunds, my car is worth around $32K stock. Mods were a little over $30K. So, anything over $40K would be good then?

The car looks great but you have over developed your car for resale..
an 01 A4 with 33,000 miles and stock would bring 26 to 30K.
a modded vette like yours would chase a lot of people away..but if someone was looking for just exactly your set up you might get 33 to 35K.
you can buy an 03 Z06 with a factory warranty for about the same money with less mileage..
afew months ago you could buy a brand new 04 coupe for 35K. they were offering 13K off the sticker.

I bought mine pretty heavily modded here from a forum member. Just let the buyer ask his/her questions and make the right calls to your tuner(s) and they should be comfortable with buying from another seasoned forum member. I have no regrets and your buyer won't either.
Good luck

If you have some of the orinal parts, you could put the car back to original and then piece out the mods, you will come out alot better in the long run(IMO)

Certain things in life are just a given.
If you do a great restoration on a car, you will NEVER get what you put in it. That's a fact of life.
Same goes with mods. You put them on to enjoy but don't ever think you'll get your money back out of them. Personally, I think if they don't HURT resale, you're doing pretty good.

You have 2 choices...take what the car is worth with no mods...that is around $29k or yu can choose to sit on it for as long as you need to and get what you want or when the car falls so far off the scale you dont care any longer to sell it.
Mine is for sale but I wont let it go unless I get what I want. It does not cost me anything but $600 a year for insurance so I will sit on it for as long as I need to.
Best thing is you need a car that really is something someone wants and that person needs to have the money where it is no object.
I have 2 people interested in mine at a price I could live with.... one guy wants to finance so I dont think that will happen, the other is actually a company where money is not a problem.
Hang on as long as you canbut that could be a long while

Great looking car you have for sale. It may be hard to find someone who likes all the mods you have done and sometimes people just don't want a highly modded car. But, wait around long enough and hopefully someone will come forward with the money. The $0.30 on the dollar for the mods may be about right. If you really want to sell fast, take what you can off and sell the pieces separately. Probably get more out of them that way. Good luck. Hope you sell it soon.

Ebay is one of the few places to try and collect. It might help you if the 30k in mods was done by a reputable tuner such as LPE.

I've been asked, "Why would you do that to your car? You won't get your money out of it!".
My response:
I bought the car as a hobby. As a toy. A thing with which I could have a tremendous amount of fun. The cost of which, if I decide to mod, will exceed just the payment and the cost of the mods. It's like putting a porch on a mobile home. It doesn't increase the value....
Basically, I view the car as an expense. Not an investment. With investments like that I'll never retire!
But I'm GD going to get the smiles per gallon out of it in the meantime. It was never an investment to begin with. It was a hole in the road into which I decide, at my own descretion, to pour money.
In the end, it's a car. It's depreciable. And Mods accelerate the depreciation scale but increase the enjoyment scale.
Good luck either way!
Michael

Thanks for the replies everyone. I'm in the same boat as iceburgh where the car just costs me insurance + garage space so I'm not in a rush to sell. The only reason I even thought about it was to make room in the garage for something else. My other option is to add a garage
