I have Supermaxx headers on w/ a corsa indy pace car catback...after installing the headers my car is too dang loud, especially when it runs fr the first 5 minutes while its in its loop phase (Run Rich)....what can i do to make it quieter w/o removing the headers? Would there be a better cat back?
Seems this is a common problem with people that add headers. By the time they add headers with one of the louder aftermarket exhausts, it's just too loud. (or they're just too old...lol)
Eventually I will add headers but at that point, I'm sure I'll be looking for a set of Ti exhausts.....
will the corsa touring really make much of a difference?
Corsa Touring is supposed to be almost a stock replacement with just a bit more kick WOT. If it WON'T make that much difference, the only thing left is to put your stock system back on (or the above mentioned stock Z06 system). There isn't anything else quieter.
I hear many recommending Ti's. I doubt if you would have gone with the Corsa indy's if you could stand the sound or restriction of the Ti's. I hear at least as many Z06 owners complain about the Ti's as I hear non-Z06 owners praising them. But then, that's why so many of the Ti's become available for non-Z06 owners. FWIW I did try Ti's briefly but also found them too quiet for my taste.
As for your question, I have noticed the same thing with my LT's and Borla Stinger combo on initial startup, but it's really only for less than 1 minute. That's when the garage door opens.
Headers will make ANY exhaust system louder! Combine that with aftermarket mufflers and the tone will get louder. Stock mufflers will quiet a header car down with MAYBE a 5-10HP loss.
I had Corsa Indy's with headers before changing cams. After the cam install, it was way too loud. Went to the tourings and it's a day and night difference. I was able to find someone locally who was willing to swap exhausts. I'm sure you'll be able to find takers for your Indy's
