Default Rear Lettering.

I purchased a set of the rear lettering in Break Light Red that says Corvette. But damit all....The things just keep comming loose. I cleaned the Corvette area real well before the install, but every time I go through the car wash, one always seems to come loose. I tried some adehsive, but it didint seem to work well. Has anyone had this problem? Also, what did you use to fix it? I am worried about using something to harsh...I do not want to ruin the paint under the letters just incase I ever feel the need to remove them or if I ever sell the beast. Thanks.

Adhesives can be affected by more than just the cleanliness of the surfaces. Temperature can play a role. When it is too hot or too cold, the adhesive will not set properly. Another factor is humidity. If the humidity is high, adhesiveness is adversely affected. One last thought, if your car wash uses heated water at high pressure, the jet can easily blast the seams betwwen the surfaces with enough force to separate them. One of my Corvette eccentricities is that I never allow a pressure washer to be used on my Z06. It is strictly hand wash with low-pressure only.

Hope this information helps and that your issue is resolved favorably and quickly.

The stainless inserts from Corvettes Of Houston come with an adhesive enhancer. If yours have come away, you'll probably never get them to stick properly. Rather than get into adhesives that could ruin your car, it may be better to bite the bullet and start again.

I had the same problem. I bought the red acrylic rear letters for $12 . I cleaned the indents with alcohol and carefully stuck them on. My car is QS so I liked the look of the red. But I went to a car show and the guy next to me had a mag. red '04 with the SS letters. I noticed his letters did not protrude out of the indents as much as mine. His were flush mounted. He told me he paid something like $80 for them. But his were stuck and were not coming out. Mine already had started to come out. So I went up on EBAY and bought the SS kit from Corvettes of Houston. I paid (I believe) $55 including shippiing. They look great! Flush mounted and like the previous poster said, the kit comes with an adhesive prep. which you apply after cleaning the indents. I guess it's a catlyst that helps bond the letters. The letters are even guaranteed against falling out and will be replaced if a letter is lost. But these puppies are not
going anywhere.

I just added the anodized blue epoxy lettering ($60 from MAD). I just cleaned the rear with alcohol and stuck them on. I used the same brand on my 93 and never had a problem.

I have the brakelight red acrylic letters. The adhesive is sticking perfectly to the bumper, however, one of my letters is starting to separate from the adhesive!!!

I didnt know if it was the brand that I used, or if it was the way I applied them. I also purchased the SS Inserts.....And yes, I use the car wash....But only the brushless kind. I would never use anything else. I drive my car daily and I like it to shine alot, so I hit the carwash at the sign of any dirt. I do wash it myself on the weekends to get a real good shine.

For those of us living up north that want to drive our car even in the winter. it is sometimes a necessity to use a car wash. When it is 0 degrees outside, it is practically impossible to unroll your garden hose and hand wash it because the hose is so stiff. Even if you could, the water temperature would turn your hand numb in less than a minute. Besides, to get the road salt out from under the car, those brushless car washes that also wash under the car can wash the salt away. When possible, I hand wash.

Southern Cali, with all the smog that settles and dust, I run her through the brushless carwash. Just to knock off all the "Cali air" from my shine. Since I drive her everyday. Even if I don't have any place to go.
Plus you all know a clean car runs faster right?

I'm looking at putting on a set of rear letterings myself. So thanks for the info.

It gets bitter cold here in Florida too!!! I hate wearing a coat when it gets down to 60 degrees.

Car washes are for those who drive their car on a daily basis and want it to look sparkly clean.....It is much easier to do a touch up during the week, than to get out the hose, bucket, etc. Plus, it gets darn cold here in September and espeicailly October..I want to feel my hands....But for those who can drive year round...I admire you. I had to put my baby away in late October. Although I did see one idiot who drove his Vert through the winter here in Henrietta...I laughed my *** of watching him drive 5 mph and slip and slide while everyone else passed his ***. It is funny how people who can afford certain vehicles dont take into consideration weather. If you cant afford two vehicles, especially in snow country...Buy a 4x4....

BTW, I will let you know...Next season of course....How the lettering turns out. Since all of you on here hand wash, it might just be the hot water blasting the letters and releasing the tape....I will redo the process. BTW, 60 degress is cold...Try below zero....with wind chill.......
