Well, I'm getting gas yesterday morning, just had the column lock recall done several weeks ago, and I get in after fueling, and all the electronics come on, but no starter.
I pull the key and the column lock is not engaged. I can steer it. Has anybody had this problem?? Is there anything I can do to engage the column lock so the car will start?? HELP!
The embarrassing part was I was just bragging on how trouble free the car has been to the clerk who was admiring it

Sounds like the Pass-Key system. Since you have an A4, the only 2 things I could think of are the transmission wasn't in P or N, or the Pass-Key system did not read the key pellet properly.
If you have a 2nd key, try that, or even better use some alcohol and Qtip and clean the ignition keyhole - the contacts may be dirty.
Does it have an AGM battery in it? Whem mine died last month ('02 coupe), it died just like that - NOTHING, NADA, ZILCH. It took a 10 minute jump with my wifes cars just to get it to turn over and limp home.
yeah, true dat. However when I turn the key on, everything kicks on, It appears to have plenty of juice, till I go to the next notch to engage the stater and the electrical kicks off....
