I have had most of mine in for quite some time - excess of 3 months. Others I have changed from time to time. Don't know if this has caused problems but if I attempt to change to next CD, or skip through to another track, more often than not I get an "err" message. If I set it to Random play it will work fine for awhile then it will give the same message.
I have cleaned the CD's, and did the scratch repair thing and still have problems. When I put the same CD in the indash player it does just fine. I am beginning to think the factory 12D changer is a piece of junk!
I have had no problems with my 12 CD Player whatsoever. The FM radio is another matter, it ususlly tries to receive two to four stations at one time, and unfortunately for me 3 of 4 stations in my area are bad country stations.
Are your CDs home burned. If so there are a few brands (don't know which) the player doesn't like. Also some burns from MP3 original files to CD format cause skipping.
Lastly I leave mine in untill I'm tired of listening to them.
I had my changer changed out 3 months after I got the car. I took a cartridge of CD's that wouldn't play into the dealers and put it into a car on the showroom floor. And it played the CD's then showed them they wouldn't play in my player. They replaced the changer. Yours maybe going south. I leave the CD's in for months on end. Rain, Winter. Doesn't and shouldn't matter. I even have a spare CD cartridge in the trunk and no problems with it either. Good luck and keep us posted.
Damn, forgot I even had one back there-don't drive the vette enough to leave my CD's in there-I just grab my changer out of my truck and use the head unit.
I don't touch mine from one year to the next. I always used burned copies in the cars because they do get a bit scratched from the bumpiness of the roads around here and in the Corvette the total lack of give in the 'run craps'.
The only brand of burned CDs it doesn't seem to like is JVC.
I agree with an earlier comment about the radio - it's rubbish, and that's why I listen the the CD player all the time.
I've had the 12-disc in two different C5s, and I've had the same CDs in the same cartridge for 6 years now. I just pulled the cartridge out of the '99 and stuck it into my '02. No problems.
I guess I should be really tired of the CDs by now.
No problems here. Mine have been in since the cruise in. Once I get my iPod interface installed I think I'm going to have the changer taken out so I can use the compartment.
i haven't had any problems with mine since purchase on 2/21/04. i changed out the discs once in that period in my 12 disc holder, and have one for my wife since may and both have worked fine.
