Gary!!! Ask Wayne how I park at JSC...farthest one in Mission Control Parking lot...Judy
Judy! Haven't seen you on here in a while.
Yeah, I can see from your profile photo that you park in the boonies. It's a great looking car. if you every make it back here, just look for the gray Vette and the purple Carrera and park next to us. Of course, you'll probably be in a Yugo rental.
When I take the Vette to work, I always park in a far corner with (but 90 degrees to) my friend's new Carrera. Our lot is generally only half full at any given time, plus it's good exercise.
This afternoon, both of us were still there, but there was a rather dilapidated Passat next to me. I think the guy was making a statement of some sort. No damage though.
I guess he figures it's a free country, he can park where ever he/she wishes. When I had my first Corvette, (1991) I used to park far away, then after my second Vette, (1993) got sideswiped at an intersection, I decided it didn't matter if I tried to "save" it from parking lot damage. If something is going to destroy the looks, it's going to happen no matter how cautious you are. I now park right in the middle of any cars, and to my surprise, most that park near me seem to leave an extra margin of room between their vehicle and mine. I think that many figure if you park far away you think your car is too good to park next to theirs, if you park in a normal manner, they seem to be careful because you are one of them. Go figure???

I used to have your way of thinking with my custom MB in England - and then one lovely day I came out to my car with a chunk of my door dented and white paint all over my recently resprayed racing green metallic. Cost a small fortune to have it repaired and resprayed.
So now I park in the Back 40 on a diagonal - and if anyone wants to park next to me - fine. But if they damage my car - it's their (metaphorical) funeral.
Revenge is a dish best eaten cold - and with your hands. (Again - metaphorically, of course )
I hate it when people w/ junkers park by you, after you've gone through the trouble of parking far away from all other cars. They do it just to be annoying.

I think maybe you looked a little too deep into this.
I've been parked way out in the north forty and have returned to find a Jag once and a Lexus on another occasion parked next but not close to my car. I figure it means they won't hurt my car if I don't hurt their's.
I feel the pain. When I'm out, I'll park at the far end of the lot- walking can't hurt. A neat thing though is that I work in the same building as the GM regional office in Chicago. Months before new cars are for sale they sit outside in the dust and grime for days stacked up on top of each other waiting (I assume) for a GM rep to pick them up. In the past two years I've got to see the new SSR, new Cadilac version of the Corvette, H2s, and even the C6 way early. Unfortunately it is disappointing to see these new toys stacked uped in the lot like they're old Cavaliers stacked in the used car dept of the local Chevy dealer.

This is a touchy subject... but my experience tells me Not to stick out in a croud, or park as if my car was special..
there is always someone out there less fortunate and always someone with attitude.. someone looing to take you down a notch..
is it justified?? hell no but that doesn't stop them ,, so my advice is dont park in two spots , on an angle , be too suspicious..these people are cowards and if you're back far enough and they think they can hurt youkey you or do other damage they will,,, if this is your parking habits then sooner or later one of these peolpe will get to you,...
Ive never had a parking lot ding in 30 years/// If I can't find the right spot I wont park..
But I do not park in a manner that looks like Im flaunting or looking like I care about my car..
I try to park as close to the store as possible with lots a people around to deter any would be attackers...
On the end... next to a car with four doors.. and someone who may be there alot longer than I am.. like an employee ..
I remember seeing a C5 parked out in left field of a sears parking lot.. I was just getting in my car right up close to door.. and saw this car load of kids drive by me.. then as I was getting oin my car I saw this car drive out to left field and all the kids threw their soda's at this corvette... they had to be 100 yards from me.. and I could hear them laughing.. as they drove off..

E-T's right. It's best to keep a low profile. There are a lot of envious immature azzholes out there who'd like to find the slightest excuse take out their resentment on your pride and joy.
