Default Programing the remote.

I just ordered a remote from a place on the net but I heard there is a way of programing the remote ourselves without going to the stealer and paying $50 for that.

Is that correct or is that just a myth ???

That would be a plesent suprise , that is not paying for that eheh

The information is in the owners manual, but basically you use your DIC. I did it a few months ago - very simple. My dealer told me they had to do it...boy, were they looking for a sucker. I believe if you search the site you will find the information on how to program the fob - I just don't have the info handy.

Enjoy!

In the owner's manual in the "Features and Controls" section.
I've got a 98 and it's in Section 2 on page 2-11.

Yes...I did the same thing...only had 1 Fob. It just goes to show you how awesome the vette really is...programming the Fob using the DIC and dash controls. Too cool.

Enjoy!

It is cool but I'm curious. If you can walk up to any Vette with a fob and press both keys and sinc it to the car, what prevents someone from doing that to get into any Vette?

When my dad purchased his C5 this past weekend, the FOB was not working. After finding this forum, I did a quick search and found the directions. It's very simple. Do a search for "FOB programming" and I think you'll find it.

Actually during the programming sequence you need to put the car and Fob in "learn" mode via the DIC and dashboard controls. So, unless you have access to the vehicle you are safe.

Sinking and programming are two different things.

The manual for my 97 says

"Try to resynchronize the transmitter by pressing and holding the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons for seven seconds when standing next to the vehicle." This will attempt to resynchronize the security code in your RFA key fob transmitter.

When resynchronization is achieved the horn will chirp. If attempts to resynchronize your transmitter to the vehicle are not successful, you man need to match the transmitter to the vehicle.

To match the transmitter to your vehicle:

1. Turn the ingnition key to the ON position
2. Clear any warning messages on the Driver Information Center (DIC) by pressing the RESET button.
3. Press the OPTIONS button on the DIC several times until the blank page is displayed, then press and hold the RESET button for two seconds.
4. When the message FOB TRAINING is displayed, push the RESET button once. The message HOLD LK+UNLK 1ST FOB will be displayed.

5. Press and hold the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the transmitter simultaneously for 15 seconds.

6. When a transmitter is learned, the DIC will display FOB LEARNED and then prompt you to learn the next transmitter.

7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 for each additional transmitter.

8. Remove the key from the ignition.

The programmer mode will shut off if:

You don't program any transmitters for two minutes.
You take the key out of the ignition.
You have programmed three transmitters.

Hope this helps.

Paul

The FOB needs to be trained "matched" initially from the DIC in order to work with the car. Once the car recongnizes the discreet codes from the FOB then a simple retraining with the buttons will work. So no, you can't just walk up and press both buttons.
