I've been considering transport companies to transport a Corvette as well over the last few years, because I knew eventually I'd get another Vette and would perhaps need to trailer it eventually as well at some point.

I did get a new 2004 Black/Mod-Red Z06 a few weeks ago.

And, I think I'll need to be trailing the Vette at some point, and maybe real soon, like after the first of year.

There's really, really good transport companies out there, and there's bad ones.

I would suggest this:

1. Don't take BS from a transport company, because they do dish out a lot of BS.

2. Don't let them take the vehicle unless they're coming to your house (door-to-door service). Do not even attempt to save money by giving it to them so they can bring it somewhere else before putting it on the real transporter or truck. The vehicle can sit somewhere for an indefinite amount of time -- days, easily weeks, and perhaps even a month or more.

3. Only use an enclosed trailer, especially if it's being trailered a distance longer than a few hundred miles, or if it's going through dusty highways/roads. An enclosed trailer protects the car when being trailered from the outside elements -- a car cover cannot be put on the car generally if it's not an enclosed trailer (a car cover can probably be used in an enclosed trailer). Also, if that transporter has to stop, you don't want the car easily accessible to anyone, because even vandalism is easy when a car is exposed. It's also best to keep the car out of the elements when being transported.

4. Specify the top of the transporter, if possible. Other vehicles can easily leak oil and other fluids, which can damage the paint. Many high-end transporters have tarps or catch nets to protect the paint of the cars from oil and fluids.

5. Tell them that the vehicle is not to be driven any more than a mile from what the odometer says. Make sure the contract has this in it, even if you have to add it to the contract and have the transport guy or someone initial it. Otherwise, tell them to forget it, because the car shouldn't need to be driven more than a mile all total or two, because the car doesn't need to be driven far (fractions of a mile) to move cars on and off the transporter. If they don't like it, don't use them.

I guess to really answer your question:

6. I suggest using a transport company that ships high-end cars. I suggest calling or looking for a really high-end car show presentation/management company, because many of the people who bring their cars to high-end car shows have the cars trailered. I'm talking about rare, irreplaceable cars, like Duesenbergs. The people who own such rare cars don't take BS when talking about transporting a Duesenberg. And what's a good transport company for these people and a Duesenberg, is want you want for your Vette. I also don't think these guys charge too much more than generally accepted pricing -- there's too much competition between transport companies that it's difficult to ask an outragous amount.

I'd also suggest talking to the owner of the transport company if at all possible. This could give you a good idea of how good of a company they are, and whether they really care or not.

Also, call the better business bureau or search the web to see if anyone has anything bad to say about the transport company.

I would search google for keywords like: Duesenberg enclosed transporter; or something similar.

Good Luck.

If you have good luck (and hopefully not bad luck) with a transport company, let us know.
