Default CAGS Elim. Install question

Is it absolutely necessary to disconnect the battery when performing this mod?

Thanks.

I did, as per the instructions. I think it's for safety reasons.

Same here, I did it on my 2000 and on the bad boy '04. No problem.

I didn't. Just raised it up, unplug the connector and installed the cags eliminator. No sparks, smoke, arcing or the like. Took all of about 2 minutes once it was up far enough to get under it.

It will eliminate the pesky 1 to 4 forced shift.

Probably not, but I am in the habit of disconnecting the battery anytime I do electrical work.

As mentioned, it eliminates the 1 to 4 skip shift, but also puts a resistor in the circuit so the PCM doesn't see a short and give a fault code. With this device, you will still see the skip shift light come on on the dash, but the electrical signal will just run through the resistor instead of the solenoid that activates the skip shift.

If it were an active circuit I could see disconnecting. Not neccesary here. Unplug, plug and you're done.

I did not disconnect the battery and had no issues at all. The only sparks flying were a result of my joy at not having to worry about that stupid skip shift feature any more!
