For those who've had difficulty trying to hardwire a radar detector or other accessory to the passenger footwell because you have a late model C5 that the accessory tap was eliminated, or because, like me, you've already loaded that tap up and need to add another device, here's an option that allows you to easily and safely add a power tap.
Pictured below is the NAPA version of a device that allows you to plug into the fuse panel and run the accessory alone or in tandem with another fused circuit with it's own separate amp rating. I'm sure similar products are sold at other parts stores as well. You simply attach the accessory's hot lead to the Add-A-Line's output lead and the ground to one near the fuse panel. Use an open link or remove an existing fuse and replace it with this device with the accessory's fuse plugged in only at first to test it. Once you've established that it's working, install the original fuse in the second slot in the Add-A-Line (or not if the slot was open to begin with) and you're done. The device comes with several fuses rated up to a maximum of 10 amps, depending on the accessory you're running through it.
I picked this up to separate my cutout control from my shift light which are both drawing power from the accessory tap in the footwell. Energizing the cutouts will occassionally send the shift light into it's self-test mode, causing it to flash.
Nifty device you found there. Here are my questions and hopefully someone can help. As I posted in my other post, I was looking for a switched power on a 2004, so, if I go find the fuse that runs the ignition and replace it with this, I can just solder my 12 volt wideband controller into that and I will be good. How would I know if an empty fuse area is swtiched or not.....use a voltmeter? Geez I wish I was better with electricity. I love to solder stuff though Do I need the 2004 schematics to answer my questions. Looks like I may be getting closer to answering my question. Thanks,
You can use a meter to test with the ignition on and off to see if a tap is switched. If you measure voltage with the ignition in the on position, but none with it off, it's switched. No soldering is required with this setup unless you want to cut the crimp connector off and solder the wires directly. Also, you can use this in any fuse position that is 10 amps or less or you can just find one that is unused.
AAAAuuuuuuggggg, I should have checked to see if I had any fuses that size and the answer is...............NO! Sooo, now looking for one for the mini fuse and guess what, Littelfuse used to carry them but no longer does Anyone else have a source. THanks,
I'm not sure if I understand your problem, Jim. You can use any position that a fuse is in with the add-in. The two fuses work independently on this device so you can run, say, a 2 amp fuse and a 10 amp fuse. The limit on this is 10 amps but surely your WB doesn't use a fuse that large. Pull a fuse in the panel, plug this device in and insert the original fuse in the device. The fuse in-line with the wire attaches to your WB.
The problem is neither one of my fuse boxes (kick panel or battery area) has the regular size fuzes. They are all mini or the larger ones. THere are no slots or fuses this size on my car. Must be ANOTHER change on the 04'.
I recently replaced my Delco cassette head unit with an Alpine head unit (no internal amp) and external amps. Because of that change, I lost my power on after ignition shut off feature to the radio. So, does this device replace that lost functionality?

If you need an Add-A-Fuse kit from Littelfuse in the Mini blade type, I keep them in stock. PM for price and you can Paypal me, and I can then Priority Mail one (or more) to you...
I replaced my Delco Cassette player in my '04 vert with an Alpine head unit w/external amps. Consequently, my ignition off/power reserve feature went away. Do they make this type fuse to replace the power reserve feature I lost when I replaced my head unit?
I have up to 9 (two folks already contacted me) of these MINI Fuse Add-A-Circuit from Littelfuse, which lets you turn one fuse block slot into two. They are new, unopened retail packages. PM for more info/pricing/shipping...
