Default Float charger hookup

Just picked up a float charger to put on my 98 coupe for winter storage. I have a simple question about hooking it up to the battery, the instructions suggest removing the battery and then hooking it up. I would prefer to leave the battery in and connected so I don't loose all the computer/radio/other misc. settings in memory. Any comments would be appreciated

P.S. Thanks to a tip from a forum member I printed out the ad for a charger advertised on the net by Harbor Freight Tools and presented it to the cashier at the local Harbor Freight store and got the advertised price and walked out the door with one and change from a ten dollar bill!! The forum is a wealth of information to anyone who is serious about their vette, Thanks again!!!

You can buy a cigar lighter plug at Radio Shack and wire it to the charger, in that way all you have to do is plug it in.

That's what I have done since I got the car.
I've had no problems and still have the original battery.
