What type of weights did Chevy use from the factory to balance the wheels? Did they use the clip type that clip to the edge of the rim or the stick on type?
They've used both in the past. My '03 with the 5 spoke polished wheels has the clip type. My neighbor's '99 with the factory magnesium wheels came with the stick on.
We were told something I thought interesting during one of our plant tours while the C5 was still being built. What our guide told us was that Firestone had the contract at that time to mount and balance the factory (Goodyear EMTs & F1 SCs on the Z06) tires. Whether this was true or not, I don't know.

For the painted and high polished wheels, they were clip on. The magnesium wheels used stick on weights on the lip. I took my factory weights off almost immediately after I bought the car and had the tires/wheels balanced using stick on weights to the inside. Leaving the clip on weights on too long has a tendency to mar the surface.
Suggest having someone balance the tires with a Hunter 9700 series balancer. This machine gives exact locations for inside weights. In addition, make sure to use the best stick on weights, and to clean the surface of the wheel with a silicone cleaner such as Acrysol. This allows the weights to adhere and not come off at high speeds.
