I like reading your posts cause they're most informative. However with regards to the "second generation" EMTs, I talked to one of our more respected vendors who is doing work on the C6 and he said that he's driven the C6 and that the second generation EMT is not all that great--still feels like a runflat! Maybe we should get some of the C6 guys to comment on the ride of the new runflat. My second 2 cents on this thread...

much engineering goes into the EMT's... A GM survey done last year of loyal C5 owners and corvette enthusiast say they want emt's but they want them quieter and more sure footed..
GY met this challenge with the second gen EMT.. by dropping the 200 mile rating at 0 pressure to 100 miles..and now offer two tread compounds.. one for touring and one for performance..The C6 Z06 will be run flat.. offered only in the performance compound.
Standard C'6 without mag ride will get the touring compound.
I hope this adds to the insanity.,
I still have contacts on the inside at GM.. when I retired three years ago I know there was alot of input given to Goodyear about what needed to be corrected... This First Gen EMT was what GM wanted.. it took a few years to hone it to something offering run flat technology, and hood handling characteristics.. Good Year is head a shoulders "engineering wise" ahead of Michilen and Firestone..They have alot of engineering resources just in run flat technology.. GY sees runflats on all cars in the future.. GY still makes the best runflat on the planet.. Like I always say everything is a trade off..
exhaust sytems will give you two of the three but not all three
great idle
great WOT response
No resonance at cruise..
Tires can not be run flat for 200 miles at zero pressure
sticky
quiet
highly corner cabable
last a long time
great in wet and dry traction
Good year just made the 2nd gen EMT better than the first, but will never be all of the above,,,,
dropping the 200 mile capability to 100 miles allowed GY to improve other areas.,..
Offering two compounds is also a step in the right direction..
Right now C6 buyers do not have a choice in compounds..
C6 Z06 will get performance compound
C6 with mag ride will get performance compound
All others will get touring compound..

Thanks for all the great info. Awhile back I checked into user comments and ratings in various sites that pertained to these four manufacturers of runflats. The decision I made was to go with the Michelin Pilot Sport AS Z/P when my GY's are gone. I passed this on to a friend who also has a vert and he went with them. The difference in ride and noise reduction was like night and day. Michelin's for me without a doubt
Mercedes Benz did a study on how often a car has a flat tire. The magic number is once every 100,000 miles. It is infrequent to say the least. I carry an electric air pump in each of my cars including the Corvette just in case of a slow leak, which most of them are.
I think the trade-off for a softer ride is worth a little hastel if you have a flat. I also carry a tire repair kit just in case. My first option is to pump up the tire and head for a tire store.
Lastly, the Z06 guys have to add air and drive to the nearest tire store no matter what. In case of a big gash, none of us are going anywhere fast.
