Default almost did it

while out with my girlfriend i talked her into stoping into the local chevy dealership to seeif they had any good deals on c5's. well i was looking around and spotted 2 04 zo6's. i walked up to them to see the price has been marked down from $57,000 to $45,000. well i was pretty ticked about how they were able to drop that much off the price tag and still make a profit off them. i then started to think that i should go up there tomorrow and see what kinda deal i can work out. well i went up there and talked to them, they wouldn't let me test drive one , but that wasn't important since i alreayd new how they ride. well, while i am talking tot he guy he is telling me that they can get me in the car for XXX month with 4% interest rate. the payment was really low for what i thought it was going to be. i talked them down to $43,500 on the price. now at this time i was so excited that i almost popped wood at the thougth of owning a new Z for this price. i had everything filled out and ready to go and almost did it.

now, i decided to think about it for a day and go home and crunch some numbers on the finacial side. well turns out i could afford the new Z but i would be living on P&J's for a long while till my raise or new job comes threw. i decided not to get the Z due to me wanting to have fun with my money and not work to pay for a car. i would rather work for me than a car payment and insurance payment.

so if any of you want a new Z and live in louisviile, ky head over to the chevy dealership off hurstborn. they have 2 z's there for that price

also they had a 2001 coupe with 44,000 miles with a sticker of 35 grand. i about passed out, cause the paint looked like crap, seats were wore out, and the car looked to be not taken car of.

i will keep looking for that perfect vette for me. this was almost it if the payment was 100-150 less a month.

There are a lot of 04 CE zo6's left on dealers lots. I'm betting once the 05 Z hits you can get more than that off. My dealer has one and he called me today after I had stopped to look at another z06 he had. I'll wait and keep an eye on it a little longer

You are going in to buy a $45000 car and they wouldn't let you test drive it? I would tell them where they could stick it.

I'd have suffered with the P&J. Imagine you could have sat in the parking lot each noon time and eaten them in the Z.... wait you'd be banned from the Forum if you ate in a Vette, especially if it was raining.

well i am sure if i would have pressed the issue more they would have. they have it locked up with all the other vettes they have there. they would have had to move 4 other cars just to get this out. to me i know what it is going to feel like since i have road in a c5 before, jsut going to be better with more HP than the one i road in.

but yeah, i almost did it

Are you looking for a Coupe or a Z06? If you are not sure which, you should definitely test drive both. Once I test drove my Z06, the coupe was traded in that afternoon.

The only reason I made the test drive comment earlier was that if the dealer wouldn't go through the trouble to try to sell the car, I would have to wonder about their service after the sell.

Oh and descapt, there is no such thing as a 2005 Z06

trust me i have many times, and yet i still get payed the same. gratned i was given more responsibilty cause he was giving it to me, but there is no more pay for it. i am the only one that can do my job at the company and get it done quickly and perfect.

i want a z06 but don't make the kinda money to live a decent life that i like to live. granted i would have a nice fast car but i would rather have money in the bank and in my pocket than spending most of it on a car. so a coupe works for me. i only almost did this cause of the deal i was going to get on it. but i could always wait until the new z06 comes out and watch the c5 z06 prices drop. time will tell

That is a good deal on a new Z, but you have to do what feels right for you. There will be another car out there with your name on it for the right price. Besides, if a dealer told me I could not test drive a car I was looking at, that would be the end of the conversation.

You did the right thing passing on this car for a lot of reasons. If the payments would have killed you - what about the rest of the costs like insurance, license plates, and maintenance?

I agree with the others - if the dealer won't let me test drive the car.....Hasta la vista, baby!

If you're dead set on getting a Vette, maybe you should start with something a little more "seasoned" (used) and work up to your "perfect Vette". JMHO.......

First, the dealer isn't the one discounting the car, GM is. They get rebates and kickbacks to get rid of them. It's not like they make $15k off of each sale during normal transactions.

Second, if they have two of them in stock, they CAN and WILL do better than $43k! Go back there and tell them that you're only $150/month from buying it. Then go home and let them call you. They will figure something out!

Good Luck

Smart choice to not buy what you can't easily afford. It's a much better option to wait a little longer, and still have some disposable income.

That's right. If there are two on the lot then they aren't selling...and you should be able to name your price (within reason they aren't going to lose money).
