You can use the existing mounts but the stock wiring will not be able to handle the current on the PIAA's. Eventually the wires will fry. You will need to use the harness supplied. See this link for further instructions.
You use the existing wiring as a switch, but the power has to come thru the new supplied wires, since the PIAAs draw more power. These lights kick *** BTW. They're as bright as my low beams.
A set is on my way. Hope the install is not difficult.
Well, its not the easiest install in the world. I installed mine when I did the
Vararam. I also used the stock wires. I know they say not too, they will
get warm if you do. I compared the stock wires with the PIAAs and the
stock is a smaller gage, but not that much. I have had no problems but
then I dont use them that often. Its also suggested you turn off the
flash on lock feature, the bulbs tend to burn out much quicker. The
manual recommends avoiding excessive on/off use of the lamps.
good to hear...i am considering using the factory wiring for the hook-up
but was just wondering if anybody had any problems by not running the piaa harness....thanks
Getting to that purple wire under the fuse box can be difficult. I wired the white wire into the stock fog light plug on the passenger side with a spade connector (the side of the connector where the purple wire runs into), wrapped it in electrical tape and it works fine.
Thats not the 'preferred' method of installing, but getting to that damn purple was starting to **** me off.
are their any forum members that are usuing the factory wiring for these? and if so are you having any problems?
About 6 months after installation, the driver's side went out. I thought it was the bulb, so I ordered a new one. (What an ordeal that was. ) After putting in the new bulb, it still didn't work. I took the assembly off and plugged into the plug on the passenger side and it worked. Put it back on the driver's side and it didn't work. Got a volt meter and checked the wires, it was drawing 11.9 volts.
Congrats... the lights on the vette are junk... That's why the C6 went to non flip ups. I installed a set of PIAA 1100's. The actual install of the fixtures is tough but WORTH IT! I don't even use the regular lights anymore. Use the new harness, it's additional work but definetly worth the trouble. Buy them and enjoy!
