Default Is this ok...................

Now, I know it is NOT the ideal situation but............

My 99 I bought last month needs new front tires real soon(like now). The back tires have plenty of tread left. In fact they look very good. They are the GY runflats.

I want to upgrade to high performance rubber. However, my pocket book, especially after buying the car recently and w/ the holidays right around the corner can't take the cost of the Pilot Sports I'm accustomed to on all four corners like I want. In fact, it(my pocketbook) can only take Kumho MX's on the 2 fronts.

I realize the right thing to do is replace all 4 tires with the same tire brand and model, but I can't. Soooooooo do u guy's think it will be ok to mount the Kumho's on the front for now and say a year from now do all 4 tires?

You will be fine. You may experience a little different handling and some additional road noise, but other than that, you will be fine. I had 3 different types of tires on my 93 (fronts matched, rears didn't match each other or the fronts) and that was the only differences I had.

I usually don't like to mix tire types, by you should be able to get by with this combo. Your car may handle different though.

Mechanically, it's probably okay - but not the ideal situation. Why don't you take a look in the C5 Parts forum and see if anyone is looking to get rid of some front GY - EMT's?

That way, maybe the fronts will wear out at about the same time as your existing backs, and you'll be in a better financial postion to buy what you want. Just my humble opinion.......

When I bought my 99, same thing, fronts had to be replace, I went back with the GY runflats. The guy at GY said to put the new or best tires on the front.
Good luck, enjoy your vette

It's usually the rears that go first. I think it's an engineering flaw in the C5 that causes the rears to wear much more quickly than the fronts.

I ran mis-matched for a while until I got bulges in the sides of the front stockers. No problem whatsoever.

I would not mix tires or would I buy just 2, but you do what you have to do to be safe!

If you just got the car, go ahead and put the new ones on the front. It won't be long before you get the back ones to catch up!

I've got over 30,000 on Nitto 550's on the front with GY RF's in the rear. No problems that I can tell. It might run "better" with the same all the way around, won't know till my pocketbook says it's OK.
