Default Question on Remote Starter

I’d like to install a remote starter on mine.

Understand the C6’s have them as standard.
Don't like the C6 , but want to put one on mine.

Has anyone installed it and how does it interact with the existing FOB and Security system??

Special model to buy etc., etc..

Appreciate it.

Regards.

DEI, aka Viper, make the alarm/starter for all GM cars with PASS. The PASS bypass is 50 bucks and some cars require a programming for the memory to work. You don't need the programming if you only use the 1 memory or you use the memory buttons. And it only works for A4s.

Why does it only work for A4s? It's possible to set up a manual so that you don't need to push in the clutch to start the car, isn't it? (just can't leave the car in gear) I thought that was only a USDM thing anyways, or atleast that's just what I've heard. That would make it possible to have remote start on a manual.

You're going to leave your car parked in Neutral with only the crappy e-brake between you and certain disaster?

No way I would ever leave my manual equipped car in neutral when parking it. The e-brake is not that reliable and you could find your car rolling down the hill when you least expect it. I'm not a wiring or computer expert, but I just don't see how you could set a manual equipped car up to where you could remote start it with it in gear and the clutch out.

if it's not a daily driver, and you do not park on hills, you can wire it on a 6 spd yourself, it just a risk you have to take

one safety step you could take is to wire the power supply for the autostart through a series of micro pinswitches. Install these on each side of the shifter base. Space and wire the switches to: if in gear (forwards or backwards) the shifter will press against the switch, cancelling the current, thus preventing the power to the starter.
You can also put one on the ebrake as an added measure

I think he means push button start (no key), not a remote starter...

If it's an A4 you can do it. If it's an MN6 you won't be able to as far as I know. Virtually any car audio place will be able to do this for you. As far as the C6 they do not have a remote starter as a standard feature. You need the remote (fob) present to start them because they do not have an ignition key but they do not have the ability to press a button outside the car and have the engine start. They would need an aftermarket kit same as us.

I have the Viper alarm system with the remote start; IE I can start the engine up to 100 ft away or so, depending upon remote battery juice...Mine is an A4, the moment you put your foot on the brake w/out the key in the ingnition, it will die...so far so good, had it about a year.

I also have the Viper remote starter and alarm...LOVE IT! Tom bought the same one for his new P/U. There is only one thing that I can say, when the remote starts sounding for you to load new batteries, do it...I ignored mine for a couple of days and the one day ran down the street to the store...I had to drive the Vette home with the alarm blaring the whole way...totally embarrassing and took back roads to get home. I guess I found out the alarm works like a charm though!
