Default Question on fuel additives?

All right ,I’ve been reading on here about using a fuel additive to keep my fuel gage from going hay wire. Every body says to use Techron (spelling) Where do I get it?
Thanks

It does not have to just be techron...

What you are looking for is a fuel system cleaner, which should be availble almost anywhere that sells car supplies. One of the choices is a fuel system cleaner that has Techron in it. But others will work too - I would suggest avoiding the bargin priced fuel system cleaners and go to the higher scale ones. If it were me I would head to an Auto Parts store to see what they have.

And Gib, the problem is the sulfur in gas causes the gas gauge to get flaky (it sort of gets sticky I guess) and the fuel system cleaner is one way to clean it back up. The other is to switch brands of gas - scan through the 1st page or 2 of posts and you'll see more info on this problem.

Default fuel problems

Try BG44K. If you can't find it in your area, check the internet. It is the best and it works. Save the Wave.>George

Mine went crazy twice today, from 3/8 tank to empty, then again later on from 1/4 tank to empty. I filled up at Chevron and bought the Techron stuff for $7.99. We'll see if that fixes it...

That’s usually where mine goes crazy but one time it did it just after filling it up.

I get Techron at Walmart. I found a bottle of BG44K online but my car is in the shop and I haven't tried it yet.

I buy mine at either pep boys or R & S Strauss. Don't forget to get the up to 20 gallon variety since they also have an up to 13 gallon variety. Our tanks hold 18 gallons.

Is it true that Lucas works also?
I think I read that it does.

I used to use Techron in my 99 Camaro - reading through the owners manual of the Vette I've been real apprehensive about using fuel cleaners / additives.

Though it appears no one has had any negative experiences from doing so ...

... and I have had erratic fuel readings - usually showing up as low fuel warnings on the DIC when there's 3/4 tanks of gas in the tank. I think this is electrical related though

It was happening to me regularly so I changed the fuel filter and use AMOCO or Shell gas exclusively...no problems last 18 months!

It also does wonders for the carbon build up that causes some preignition problems. I assure you - I don't own stock in it! I use techron also but before each oil change I go with a bottle of BG - $21 here.

BG44K here, a local dealership here sells it for just under $17 a can. I use a can once about every other month and I have not had any problems since using it. I hear Techron works also. There are no Chevron Gas Station here in NJ.

The experts I know all recommend it's better to use fuel system cleaners in smaller regular doses. Two products which work very well (and you can buy in bulk in order to spend less $$ per mile compared to over the counter stuff) are Schaeffer's Neutra fuel system treatment, and Fuel Power (made by Lube Control)

I'm using Fuel Power right now, they (lubecontrol.com) sell it for $26 per gallon, and what you do is put 1 oz of this stuff in your tank for every 5 gallons of gas. It's much better to do the smaller continuous doses compared to one big shock dose every once in a while. The continuous dosage method ensures your combustion chamber stays completely clean, as well as your entire fuel system.
