On a road course, the driver is going to make all the difference. On a 1/4 mile, you're better off getting a camaro and modding it, but that's a different story. A good h/c package and maybe some 3.90 gears is enough to blow a Z06 away if you can get the power to the ground.

and with the coupe, you can store more stuff in the trunk area of the car when you use it for a DD and take the top off on nice weekends. Not to mention that insurance companies don't care how modded your car is, it's still just a coupe and the insurance was almost $1000 a year cheaper for me.
He makes some good points here that I didn't think of especially the insurance. Like I said I am very happy with my coupe you can't go wrong what ever you decide. Just figure out what's MOST important to you and you'll be very happy.

Well, I love my removable top! I was so pleased with the performance of my 2000 A4 Coupe and a friend and I went to look at a ZO6 for him. He wanted me to test drive it, because he wasn't a great manual tranny driver and I had owned a 1999 Z28 with a M6. Allow me to say this...

That Zo6 was incredible in the performance, handling and road feel! I honestly thought about trading mine in at that moment and when I returned to the dealer, I saw my coupe and I just think that the coupe is so much more attractive. I am not saying the Z was ugly, I just prefer my coupe style and if I could go out and buy a coupe with the LS6 in it, I would. I have my plans on mods to out perform the Z, but I must admit that the stock Z I drove would have smoked my coupe!

If you are doing a weekend cruiser to the track, buy a coupe and take the difference in money and mod it to your liking.

Good luck in your choice and realize this... Either way you are going to love the C5!

I have a Z51 coupe with a G92 axle. Have the Z06 tires also.
IT runs and corners very nice.

Sorry to have to say this, but if the 338 hp in your sig is what you're putting out, you're not making more hp than a stock Z06, at least mine. Mine's pulling 357.

I shopped this same thought when I bought mine.

I decided that I wanted to travel in it. It needed room for 2 adults for a week. Trust me fellas thats alot clothes

Second I play golf and like driving to the country club in my vette. Seems I get better service when I pull up to get my clubs out.

Third...the price was a deciding factor. I looked at the performance aspect of both cars and decided that if needed I could always MOD the car at my leisure. I've done that and now any stock Z out there better behave

Next I wanted the best of both worlds. I wanted performance and livability. Its nice having a targa style roof to enjoy that fresh air every so often. Nothing like crusin 100+mph with the top off

Whatever you decide to do remember that both cars are from the same plant and have the same name affixed to them. You cant go wrong either way

My$.02. There is nothing like popping the top on my coupe on a warm summer night. Can't afford a vert dammit. You can mod a coupe to near Z srec.s. Go coupe. BTW you really can't go wrong here.

I had the same descisiona few months ago and went with the coupe. I think the coupe looks 100x better then the Z06 (Z06's are still beautiful though), plus I enjoy modding my cars and making them my own. I figured I'd go with the less expensives to start with and mod to where i want to be, and still have the looks of the coupe. My first mod was a full z06 suspension (which didnt take me and my father more then 5 hours to do). The suspension alone made the car feel completely different and I haven't even decided on which wheels and tires I want yet. Once I'm don modding I'll have the looks and more power then a Z, and I'll have the enjoyment of customizing my Vette the whole time

Sounds to me like the answer to your own question will come from this question, will you mod your car or keep it stock? The coupe can be made to perform as well or better than the Z06 just as the Z06 can be improved.

My own opinion... get the z06. I'm not a big modder, though not for lack of desire. I don't know many other owners around me, and haven't the guts to take my toolbox within 10 feet of my C5. Also I love the look of the Z, like the vert it has a great cutback top line to it that really does it for me.

Default Coupe vs Z

I had Z51 coupe with Z wheels and GYSC tires. I now have a Zo6.
The handling of the Z51coupe with the Z tires and wheels is almost inentical to the Z. The steering ratio or something is a little different on the Z. The big difference between the two is HP and LBs.

I love these threads where people think they can gey Z06 performance with a couple of bolt ons It's not just horsepower, it's gearing in the rear, more aggressive gearing in the tranny, and lighter weight. I agree with SSX 100%, my Z06 put down 358 stock. I did the EXACT same mods as the gentleman SSX was referring to & put down 391.Belive it or not people with a ZO6 mod their cars too!

I like the coupe because I like to take my top off. However you can make a coupe faster than a Z06. All it takes is a little money$$$$

For me this was a no brainer. I wanted maximun performance out of the box without putting a wrench to it, so I went Z06.
As for looks, well I like all the body styles but I find the Z06 styling the most appealing to me. I like the stock sound of the Z a lot better than the others. I know, you can mod the Coupe to look/sound/handle/accelerate just like a Z06, but then you have to modify it and that is the magic word: modify. I think it will cost less to buy a Z06 than to modify a Z51 Coupe to be on par with a Z06. If you don't really care about the roof, I'd say go Z06, if you have to have a removable roof, go Coupe. As someone said before, you can't go wrong with any of the body styles.

I test drove a 2000 Coupe and a 2001 Z06. After the test drive there was no question. That is why I have the 2001 Z06! I came up from a 93 C4 and the 2000 Coupe was only a hair quicker than my mostly stock C4. I was disappointed that it wasn't a lot faster, since my 93 was an auto and the 2000 was a stick. Hands down...get the Z. Test drive both and you will see!!!!

For a well integrated package, get the Z06 if you want to take it to the track. I like my coupe however, because I can take the top off, it has plenty of storage space and is fast enough for me.

My plan is I bought am A4 coupe. I have been working on getting my wife to drive it, and take it out buy herself. WHY would I do this you ask? If I can get her hooked an the A4 coupe we can call it her car, and then I will have to get a new car for me. Possibly a Zo6. My suggestion get them both.

You can mod a coupe to blow the z06 away. So if you like the looks of the coupe then go with the coupe and mod it.

I have a vert and a z. You can talk all you want but the z is THE car. Why mod only to fall short of where the other car starts at.
