I own a 03 z06 which always ran flawless, until tonight
I was driving my car tonight and at a red light the car started shuttering wildly I didn't want to drive it any farther, so I immediatley pulled over .. Tried one more time to start it and it shuttered again and failed to start... So I got it flatbedded to my dealer ( I have an awesome mechanic there that knows corvettes so I can take solice in that)
My question is has this happened to anybody else here? or does anyone have any idea what it was ... no engine light came on, no codes ... ??
May be a fuel pump but the dealer will find it whatever it is. If it is going to fail on you, it's better to be a hard failure rather than an intermittent one....

Good luck....
Thanks for the reply ferveritt
I was also thinking it was fuel related, nice to hear someone else thought the same.. I'll let u know .. hopefully tomorrow..
Hey Guys thanks for the replies, unfortunately its not something as simple as the fuel pump . Turns out they have to replace the #5 intake valve.
Just be glad that you didnt drive it more.... My 95 Z28 broke a spring and dropped a valve when it happened my symptoms were exactly like you described. I fired it up one too many times....once for the tow truck ( shut it right off... it sounded bad) and once for a friend to get a diagnosis( it seized)..........

Good thing it is under warranty

Shawn,
Our stories are very similar, I also started it once for the tow truck driver, he wanted me to move it back abit, (it sounded bad) then I refused to try for the guys in the shop that wanted to see if it would start... .. My 98 camaro z28 convertable that I traded in on the z06 had thrown rocker arm bearings, I guess i'm just not that lucky with cars
Have you ever missed a gear or say shiffted into 2nd instead of 4th? I am sorry to hear that happened. I would also hate to see the bill if it wasn't covered under warranty.

Hey Shawn,
Our stories were more similar than you know.. Our symptoms were exactly the same , and I also started it once more for the tow truck ( shut it right off... it sounded bad) .. refused to start the car again. Turns out I got lucky I didn't drop a valve.. It was a simple fix , under $300.00 cdn surprisingly. Just a bolt on fix unless u drop a valve into the piston, then it's a different story..
Does anyone know what causes spring failures? Bad batches?? I've never heard of this failure on a stock vette , has anyone else ??

No missed shifts, although the bill wasnt that bad, just a bolt on $300.00 cdn job >labor and parts :O)...It would of been a lot different if it would have dropped the valve into the chamber just hope thats the last of the bad springs

It happens although not as much as it used to happen. I lost a spring on my 69 big block after a run with a Mustang. I was driving in the rain when I heard a tapping sound start. As I was trying to figure out what the problem was I slowed down to drive by a cop directing traffic around an accident. Just as I got next to him the valve dropped. What a noise. He must have thought he was shot at by somebody the way he jumped. I was lucky since I had forged pistons and the valve caught the piston on the way up and was bent over before it dropped very far. The piston was just touching it as it came up. The repair was one head removal and machining, a new valve, some new valve springs and an oil change.
