Where do you get your oil changed?
The DIC indicates I have 32% oil life remaining and I'm going to get it changed this weekend. It's time for some fresh 5-30 Mobil.
Anybody have anything good to say about franchises like Grease Monkey or Jiffy Lube? The one advantage to these is that you don't have to drive the car onto any lifts...you drive it over an open pit.
I'd like to know that too.. Something though about having to let the oil drain for min 20 minutes because of pan shape or soemthing like that???
I know when I park mine in a commercial parking garage, they are usually on an angle. If the left side if facing 'down hill', I will get a low oil light in the DIC. Park on level ground and let it sit, then DIC message goes away. Manually check oil on stick and is fine.
Sounds as though an easy procedure, whether I do it, Jiffy, or a Dealer.
It all depends. I've heard horror stores like Elite's. I had a good experience at a local Kwik-Car Tune & Lube. They used 6 1/2 Qts. of Mobil 1 and filter, checked all the fluids, vacuumed the interior and cleaned the windows for $54.72 + tax with a $7.00 coupon. I watched them do it and was most impressed when they let the oil drain for over 15 minutes to make sure the oil pan was empty.
Dealer. First, because I get the first 4 free. Second, they do a better job in about the same time as Jiffy Lube type place and will do it on a Saturday. But then I have a good dealer...
I had one of these places strip the threads on the drain plug of my wife's car before we were married.
The only garage I use, is my own.
Ive heard of too many horror stories.. stripped threads.. wrong oil... wrong filter. I wont let an 8 an hr person touch my car.. infact I wont let a 50 an hr person touch my car.
Only had it done once so far, but I took it to the dealer's 'quick lube' facility. They did a good, careful job for about $67.
I'm not overly worried about draining for so long. They get virtually all out of it anyway I would think. I know that they put 6.4 quarts of new oil in.
I'm thinking about making some of the ramps that Mike Mercury has on his website and doing it myself, however.
Myself, but once I had the local Jiffy lube to the work, and I brought the Mobil 1 and the UPF 44 filter. Charged me $15.00 for the labor.
No need to sit there for 20 minutes to drain the oil. Just make sure it is flat or with the front end lower than the back. It is a good idea to heat up the oil a little before draining, then allow it to settle for about five minutes.
I always add 6.5 qts, and it is exactly on the fill mark, and I don't let it drain for 20 minutes.
