HOLY FLYING RAT DROPPINGS!! NO SHIAT??? Damn, does that mean it is going to happen or it did? It ran fine after that.
Possibly, but not necessarily. Several different conditions can cause this message to appear. For example, this message may occur when the ignition key is removed and reinserted before the steering column lock system fully locks or unlocks the steering column. However IMO, it would be advisable for you to read what your owner's manual has to say about this message.
Sometimes when the column locks people get that. If yours didn't, count yourself lucky. The computer may just have not been able to get the key chip information and reinstalling the key fixed things.
Matt, just don't forget...when it does lock, just apply a solid pressure clockwise on your steering wheel, maybe even jerk it, while you turn the key on, hopefully that will keep you from being stranded at least.....i suggest ordering the columlock bypass, if i had 50 bux lyin around, i would
Welcome to Column Lock Central. You're about to have one of the most aggravating experiences you can imagine. When you least expect it you'll try to start your and it will shut itself off and you can't turn your steering wheel. That's exactly how mine acted when it locked.
If you haven't and can get the recall work done - I'd suggest you take care of that before you get stuck somewhere you don't want to be or on a weekend when you can't get it taken care of.
Unless your car has a manual trans. Then the recall fixes nothing and the column can still lock. I also wouldn't get an aftermarket bypass as they can ruin your BCM. If you must use a bypass get GM's Harness K bypass. It is what they use to cure auto trans C5's column lock issues. It cost more than the aftermarket ones but, it sends the correct voltages to your BCM.

Is this true? I have a 2001 MN6 and plan to install the CLB when I take it out of hibernation in the spring. I don't wnat to screw up my BCM and run into further issues.
