My 2001 with 35,000 miles on it does not use any oil. It's my understanding that some do and that the problem is fixable as it has to do with weak rings.
I have an '01 and have had no problems. My good friend has an '01 with no problems. I have not seen where the '01 have taken a price dive. You might want to check your source.

I think I read that 2000 had porblems and the six speeds were running in 1st and second a lot and blowing oil past the rings with the high rev's.I had a 01 auto ,no problems.
SOME of the 2001s do have an oil "problem". I have one of them. Up until 50,000 miles I burned one quart every 1500 miles. Now it's one quart every 3000 miles. It taking an increadable time to break the engine in!!!
Had an 01 oil ring problem but fixed under GM War. they replaced the oil ring which I think is the bottom one and no more problems after 15,000 more miles, just traded for C6
I have an 01 six speed and no problems here. I monitor this closely, and at my last oil change was down about 1/2 quart. I have a total of 21K miles on the car, so I doubt I will be affected. All I do now is ear to ear, wave, and think about my next mod - what a car!
I guess some do and some don't - I've got a friend who lives 6km away and his 2001 uses a litre every 2000k (about a quart every 1300 miles) and it's getting worse . .
