Spray water on it There's some how-to's out there. I take a damp rag and wipe down everythign I can, then I start it up and wash it with soapy water making sure to avoid my belts and alternator, then I rinse it w/ the car still running. After that I spray a crap ton (technical measuremnt) of A303 protectant (insert armourall or something also) again avoiding the belts. Then I close the hood and let it run for 10 minutes. After that you'll be amazied at how brand new it looks.
BTW I was scared and did this my my Aunts '98 vert that is a Florida car first. Then had never washed or cleaned under the hood in 5 years. It looked brand new when I was done with it and she was thrilled.
I've read some posts on here where some people spray their engines with that tire foam stuff. After they spray it they wipe down the engine to get the excess grease and dirt off. I havent tried this yet but the people who did swear their engine is cleaner than clean.
FWIW & IMHO:
I have never had a vehicle that I was afraid to high pressure hose wash in, well, at least 30 years or so. I currently use a high pressure hose at a commercial car wash, and have never had a problem that I can directly trace to the water. Plastic baggie the K & N filter, though. I am sure that wiping it down with a rag or cloth would look better, though. Depends on how small your hands are, how small of an opening that you can get them into, and how much pain you want to go through doing this. Dont. spray with armourall where you can't get into to wipe off cause it looks like crap.
Amazing! I also use Simple Green when the motor is cold. Let it sit for 15 min. then hose it off. Then I spray No Touch tire foam on mostly everything "N/A paint & electrical". Then wipe what's left down with soft towel and your locking better then new. Good evening Les! Hope things are well.

I use a product named "Bike Bright" just spray on and rinse off. Made to work with/around electrical and rubber/plastic. Leaves a protectant behind for all hoses and plastic parts. Very easy one step system and works very well, as designed.
Hi Steve - yes things are well, hope you had a good Thanksgiving.
For the rubber parts I use McGuiers (sp) tire gel and a rag. And also use the Simple Green on a cold or barely warm motor.

Anyone ever had their hoses turn green form pollen? Even since I came back to Ga my hoses are green. I scrubbed em and they are still dirty. It looks like crap, any suggestions..... besides getting new hoses.
