I was at a local car show this past sat and there was a brand new Roush Mustang. Along with the Stang were 2 salesmen from Roush. There was a large crowd around them, so I went over to check it out. They had a sign in the car giving the specs, and here is what it read:
Supercharged 4.6L engine producing 360hp
0-60 in 4.3 sec.
0-100 in 10.5 sec.
1/4 mi. in 12.7@109 mph
Various suspension upgrades
Body kit, wheels, etc.
5 speed w/ 3.07 gears
Now here is what the salesmen were claiming:
360hp to the rear wheels
0-60 in 4.0 or less
0-100 in 5.0 sec. ( yes they said this ! )
1/4 mi. in 12.3@111 mph or less
"Add slicks and this car is in the LOW 11's"
"There is not a car on the road that can touch this car" " The only car we are having trouble with is the Porsche 911 TT, and we are scaring the hell out of them right now".
I was laughing pretty hard so the salesmen kept giving me dirty looks. I asked them if they thought they could beat the ZO6, and they said, " No problem".
I am not very familiar with the ZO6, but have read some pretty impressive numbers. What do you guys think about the Roush Stang?
If any of you AZ ZO6 people want to check out the stang, it was at the Pavilions Car show this past sat, and will probably be up there again this sat. If it is, I am going to challenge them to race my SS. I don't care if I lose, but I don't believe the hype. Oh did I mention the price tag? $64,000! Just wondering what you guys think.

Roush and Saleens are OK, but the new Mustangs that you really have to watch out for are Cobras equipped with the new Vortech kits for Cobras. The Roush vehicles are all (I believe) based on the iron block 4.6s. The Cobra engine is an aluminum block DOHC. Vortech claims its new ~8.5 psi blower for the Cobra will produce 464 hp. This is without an intercooler. Add a 50 shot to cool the intake and all for less than $50K.
You would have a sleeper Cobra, but you wouldn't have all those Roush styling do-das.

I saw that car last weekend there also.
I didn't see a large crowd around it though.
A few people and a couple of people from Roush. Anyway you cut it, it's still a stang
and for that kind of money???????????
Just my .02

Steve

i like these posts because i own a stang. its only a gt but i can tell you from other experience, the 4.6 can get a lot of power but if i was to put 30000 into my car (to make it the same price as the roush) most cars would have to watch out for me. in a roush id pay 30000 for it. 64...you can keep it. id get a 2002 vette with 15000 of mods and then the viper, porsche, etc would look out.

Talkin times and speed in the quarter, 109 mph in the 1\4 does not equate to 12.7 seconds. More like 13.1.
65K for a Mustang. WAJ. No thank you!
Talk is cheap.
By the way, when do you know that a salesman is lying? When his mouth is moving.

ArizonaZ06,
My Mustang turned 12.39 @107 MPH about 2 weeks ago in very bad air. My buddies turned 12.02 at 109 MPH. Both are 302's. Mine has a 3.73 rear and nitrous, and his has a 4.11 and a supercharger. Both are C4 automatics. So the MPH is believeable.
(PS: I have a 2000 Vette).

It's not that hard to modify a Mustang, Camaro or Firebird to be the equal or superior to a Stock Z06. Once you start to modify a car all bets are off. However, modifications do not add to the value at all. If I take a $45,000 2001 Corvette and put on a Set of $6K rims and a $43K Lingenfelter Stage II Twin Turbo kit, do you know what the blue book is on the car?
Less than a Bone stock 2001 Corvette.
Sadly, modifications are only worth something to people (like us) Who are into modifications. If you spend $20,000 on a Mustang, Corvette, Camaro or Firebird in modifications, don't expect to see it back, and even if you do find a gearhead to buy it, You'll be lucky if they're willing to even spend a third for the modifications that you did.
Now as for the Rousch vs the Z06? Rousch claims 12.7@109 from the Factory and Chevy claims 12.4@116. Personally I would never spend $40K+ on a Mustang, because in the end you have a car that is worth only $20K in two years, not to mention you still get the cheap Ford interior and 25 year old Fox Chasis.

Found it... http://www.roushperf.com
It looks like this is a $26,000 option on a brand new Mustang., so figure around $50K or so....
....I would preffer a convertible Vette for $50K personally.

The next generation mustang will be based on the Lincoln LS. I think this will make for a much better platform than the older Fox Chasis if they can get the weight down,....as for styling? I have yet to see a Ford come out that really got my excited.

There is something seriously wrong with a car that gets to 100 in 5 seconds, and then takes another 7.3 seconds to get to 111

Well, I was up at the Pavilions again yesterday, but did not see the Roush stang. It might have been there before I got there, but not sure. I did a little reading on the Roush, and the mags claim 360 fwhp, not rear wheels. I probably have more than that right now with just my lid and Borla. I pulled up behind a Roush the other day going to work and revved the engine a little. The guy turned all the way around to see what was behind him. I just gave a little wave, and he went the opposite direction that I was headed. I think my SS can take one on the street, and I know I can't take a ZO6, so once again, the mustang crew is talking out their a$$.

JWY,
Me too. the stock Cobras were breaking pistons. I would hate to see a Cobra with a blower with a stock lower end. I looked into this, and it can be done. Send motor to Houston Performance with your check-book.
they toss all of Ford's junk in the dumpster and build it right. From what I gather they are a very good mod company. That is where mine was going, before I canceled order and bought a "Real" car...
Got to remember Cobra weighs 3,600 Lbs. and Roush adds 500 Lbs. of plastic wanna-be ground effects. Can you spell "Tank"
Last point. If an engine is poorly desinged and can't make power, put a blower on it. Remember, if you want to compare, the LPE Stage2 Z06 is about 650 HP. Tell Jack Roush to try that!

I just couldn't help but think about some of the things that were said, mainly those regarding "It's still just a Stang".
Well, don't the Viper people sometimes say that about Corvettes?
"Its still just a Vette."
Just a little food for thought.
