Although my manual suggests changing my oil every 12 months, regardless of the remaining life span, I'm tempted to fudge a little. Is this being penny wise & dollar foolish?
Yes, change that oil. I do my own oil changes and just did the work with only 11 months of use, about 2,600 miles. I didn't want to be crawling around in the cold weather so I changed it during a mild day in October. Yes, I drive my car in the Winter as long as the roads are free of salt and sand.
Change it to get the moisture and acids out of the crankcase, and off of your engine parts. In fact, I'd say to change it twice per year regardless of mileage for this very reason.
For the cheap SOBs out there, Pep Boys sells a calendar for $1 and inside is a coupon for 3 free Mobil1 oil quarts when you buy 3 quarts. 50% and the $1 goes to MADD, a good cause. Consider it a two for sale and stock up.
change the oil in spring and fall or sooner to protect the engine internals.
