Hey fellas,I'm rolling into my third week with my new Z06.I'm very happy with the car and it's ALL and MORE than I expected.I have
one concern I'm hoping someone here has had experience with and can help me with (or re- assure me).
I hear valve train noise when driving. Most
noticable inside beginning just off idle and blending into the background by 2100 rpm.It
sounds almost like the engines of old with solid lifters, although I know the LS6 has hydralic lifters (which should have zero valve lash).Right?
Plenty of oil & oil pressure, engine runs like a scalded dog,no other problems.I love it!
Thanks in advance for any and all help you can pass along. For now I'll just turn the radio up and keep burning gas

What they said.
It's a high performance engine that revs to 6500+ rpm and makes wonderful music at WOT. The throaty roar is integral to the experience. But so is a little engine noise at low rpm.

I've got this noise as well and have posted this same question. I and others have described it as valve train clatter, but as you stated, with the hydralic lifters, you shouldn't get that noise. I might lean towards injector noise, but at any rate, I've got 5K miles on my Z now and no trouble.

Here's something that will tickle your brain cells.A friend who builds Chevy engines
told me of a company that used to make hydralic lifters for high rise cams that were designed to bleed down some at low rpms
(in response to oil pressure) in order to reduce the lift/duration at idle. This would
result in a much smoother streetable engine
that would retain the Monster characteristics
of the big cam.As rpms (& oil pressure) increased the lifters would pump up and deliver the full lift/duration of the cam.
Hmmmm.....sounds good,what d'ya think?

Rhodes I think it was that sold these lifters... They do make a little noise from what I've heard but I haven't heard a lot of people recommend them.
Yup they make some noise when they bleed down but the Z06 cam is really not all that radical. Mine idles nice and smooth.
