But I know they have different baseplates.

Rich - I ~finally~ managed to remind and bug my Hastings Filter rep enough that he remembered the B31 when he visited this week. I have an Amsoil SDF8, a Hastings LF232 and a Baldwin B31, and they are identical. All 3 have the same baseplates with 7 holes. Will take some pics over the weekend and get them posted, along with the dates that they were manufactured.

(Actually, the Amsoil probably doesn't matter since Donaldson recently bought their business away from Hastings. Amsoil filters manufactured by Hastings will fade away, as inventories diminish.)

I use the K&N HP 1007 filter.

That is very interesting. I am in Florida again but I do have some Baidwin B31s at home and I am, almost, certain that the baseplate has 8 holes. I'll check Monday.

I'm surprised Baldwin hasn't changed their website to show the new design. It still shows 8 holes.

Good flow means alot compared to filtration. I use the k&n with the magnetic drain plug. Engine tick is almost gone since I switched to the k&n

I know - apparently that is an old picture on the web site. Both brands have been manufactured in Kearney NE since 2000 or 2001, and maybe before that.

My most recent shipment (~7 weeks ago, from the same place you get yours) has 7 holes. Their website is definitely out of date (though how many people other than us would notice? ).

You're not going to have flow problems with either one, IMO...
