I'm hoping to purchase a 2002 Z06 very shortly and have had discussions with several dealers. I don't understand the GM terminology related to the ordering process. Please forgive my ignorance. I suspect that much of it is self-explanatory, but I'd appreciate some help from some experts.

One salesman told me his dealership has a Z06 being built "this week," yet the Vehicle Order Detail sheet they faxed me shows the TPW line to be blank. I called GM today, gave them the Vehicle order number, and they told me the order was submitted, but not accepted, yet. Am I being misled by the dealer?

Other dealers have told me they can get me a car by late August, but as of now, they can't tell me the TPW, interior color, options, etc.

Are TPW's accurate or just guestimates?

Is there really a long delay in getting an EB Z06?

If someone could explain the sequence from order placement, through the various production codes, to car arrival, it would be very helpful. If this has been addressed in the past, then a link to that thread would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Hey Multi, Welcome to the Forum! Even those of us who have been here a long time ddon't understand the GM order system. To buy a Corvette, the dealer must have an allocation in the GM production order system (POMS). This provides a basic car with the exterior color fixed. Options and interior are specified at the time of order.

My order went into POMS last Tuesday, I received my order number (DNND3T) on Wednesday and I learned today my TPW is 8/27. This date is reasonably firm, but can come forward by a week or so and back by a week or two. The key here is getting an allocation in the POMS system. Then add 4 to 8 weeks.

Here are the numbers in the system:

2001-Order generated to dealer
2005-Order replaced with GM Prospec order
2050-Order changed
2500-Order sent to production, preferenced
3000-Order accepted by production control
3100-Order available to sequence (now the tpw becomes more stable)
3400-Order broadcasted for production
3800-Vehicle produced
4150-Vehicled invoiced to dealer
4200-Vehicle shipped
5000-Vehicle delivered to dealer
6000-Vehicle delivered to customer
6010-Vehicle delivery change

GM seems to have the most difficult ordering system in the world. jerboa is correct, things are always in limbo. I got a TPW of 8/6 from my dealer and 8/27 from Sonny. So I'm shooting for sometime in early to late Aug. If you want to check with Sonny call 1-270-745-8184. He's very busy due to his retirement on Tues., of next week. So leave a message or call often. Or you can call GM @ 1-800-222-1020, they'll need your name and order number(usually six letters). GM's system gets updated every Mon. morning. They seem to be having computer problems, at the plant, with their sequence numbers.

Good Luck..

When you call this toll free number, the very friendly operator says call your dealer. If you say no info or slow info from the dealer, then the operator calls the dealer while you are on hold and tells you your TPW and order status number. I know, I know, but don't get me started.

I've been told that the GM system updates Friday night from one source and Monday morning in the posting above. So in summary for those following closely, POMS updates Thursdays for allocations, Tuesday for confirmed orders, and Friday or Monday for status and TPW updates. Whew! Busy computer system. Now if we only knew someone with a terminal.

I h8 to w8.

As I stated above, the dealer told me 8/6, Sonny 8/27. And I called GM again today, and they told me to call in two weeks. So they all have different data bases, from which they draw their info. As hard as it is, I'm trying not to think about it. Boy, is it hard.

BJ,

According to Ken's Newsletter, the TPW for my car should have been 8/13. When I was told 8/27 by Sonny I did a double check. My event code changed from 2500 to 3000 (Accepted for production) but my TPW remains at 8/27.

I'm guessing they are painting EB that week.
