A Very Nice Find!!
After being down most of the week with because of my notoriously bad back, I decided to go out for a little cruising last night. I stopped at a different Unocal station than I usually use and was happy to discover that they sold 100 octane racing fuel. Now that may not mean much to those of you who don't live in CA, but to me, finding anything over 91 octane was like Christmas. I bought $20 of the stuff and motored on down the road. Gosh...I was sure that I had picked up some extra HP after a few miles!
BTW...how do you figure out what the true octane level is when you mix a few gallons of 100 with 91? Is there an easy way to do the conversion?
As an aside...no sooner had I gotten out on the freeway then a Civic with a coffee can muffler pulls up along side and starts to rev his motor (what there was of it) and jerk back and forth on and off the gas. It looked like the car was having a seizure! When I didn't respond he pulled over a lane and gave it all he had just before he got to the next exit ramp and pulled off. He was all in and hardly showed any real acceleration, but I could sure hear that four banger trying real hard!
I laughed and laughed...it was great entertainment. I'm sure he ran to his friends with another Z06 kill story!
The final octane should be very close to a volumetric weighted average-- or-- a 50/50 mix of 100 and 91 should be: 0.5 x 100 + 0.5 x 91 = 50 + 45.5 = 95.5 .... That is not exact, but it should be pretty close, so who cares if you're off by .2 octane or so?

The Unocal 76 station at Almaden Expressway and Camden or Capitol...sorry I'm not sure which one of these two streets it was, but if you take Almaden Expressway North from 85 you will see it on the right at one of those two intersections. The 100 octane is only on one of the pumps...the only one with four octane selections.

Thanks!! I'm impressed by your mathematical skills!
