Default C5 - Headlight adjustment ?

My headlights on my C5 - when closed - are just slightly raised above the nose piece. How do you adjust them to have them flush when closed ? And would that adjustment make any difference when they would be up and on ? Pics and links would be very helpful.

Thanks,
Dennis

Sorry can't do you any pics, but have just spent a day and half trying to free vertical beam adjuster on my left hand headlight (with no sucess) so I've had the thing completely to pieces.

It's simple to adjust the headlight door, and it does not affect the beam aim.

Open the bonnet, sorry hood. Wind the headlamp open using the knurled *** on top of the motor - turns anti-clockwise to open. when you've finished makes sure you close it (clockwise) manually too - THIS IS IMPORTANT.

Remove the three screws holding the black plastic surround on - one to the outside of the car, two to the inside. There is a spring clip also holding it on which is dead centre of the light and is fixed on the headlamp housing. The surround just pulls out very easily.

Before you remove the light hood note which of the four corners you need to adjust for height.

Now you will find that the headlamp hood has got two torx screws at the rear of the headlight, and two more torx screws, one either side. Remove these, and then remove the headlight hood. This just lifts off.

Underneath there is a headlight hood mounting plate. Unless you also need to adjust the skew of the headlight hood do not touch the 4 torx screws holding this plate in place.

On each corner of the plate there is a white hexagonal plastic screw with a torx insert. These are the screws that adjust the height of the headlamp hood corners. Adjust them as needed and refit the parts in reverse order.

The last bit is disingenous, it'll probably take four or five goes to get the door to close exactly the way you want it to . .

Good luck

You can open the headlamps by simply turning them on and then turn the lamp switch back one notch. They will stay up and the lamps will be off. It's much easier.

True, but on mine the running lights stay on in this case - can't see the point of unnecessarily draining the battery and if you do it by hand you can fiddle the height of the lights to make getting the screws in and out easier.

With the lights right up you'll need a flexible screwdiver to get at the rear torx screws on the light hood. Open the light half way by hand and a regular screwdriver will be OK.

TTFN.

That's odd. I think I remeber the torx screws being on the sides for the headlight cover. It might be different on the Europe models.
