Default Wheel Hoppage ?? NEED HELP ~

I own a 99 coupe with recent engine repair to the heads. I have a Borla Stingers installed and the Vette comes with a manual, and it has 20,000 miles on it.

Here is my question...

I have trouble getting grip to my tires, even at 2 or 3,000 rpms, if I goose it down hard, my tires seem to spin and not grip totally all the time. I may not be no expert in this field, but even at 4,000 rpms, and slamming down on the gas would produce loss of traction of the rear wheels ??

I may be confused or maybe the suspension needs work or whateva.

But I am confused on how to solve this problem, if it is one.

I would appreciate any comments

Thanks

sounds like you have a stout car. Mashing the throttle at 4,000 in first should add to a traction problem, as that's near your peak torque production of your power curve. BE VERY CAREFULL ABOUT WHEEL HOP....if you get wheel hop be carefull, i just had wheel hop break my rear differential case clean off the transmission

I agree with stangkiller. Wheel hop is very bad. No traction is actually a much better problem to have. Do a search in the tech area on wheel hop. There are a few different things to try. Adding stickier tires fixed mine.

Well maybe its not really wheel hop then. Maybe its loss of traction when I slam down on the gas at mid rpm's in first gear. My boss has the same engine and a slight more mod's on a 02 camaro SS conv't slp and his car does not have the same problem.
Shouldnt I have full traction rolling at 25 mph and then hitting the gas till moving into 2nd gear ?
The tires only have 20,000 miles on them and are the stock run flats.
Where should I look and what should I look for

Thanks....

the run craps are your problem, no questions asked. Get a good set of non run flats and that will help, but also we have a nice 1st gear, try rolling on the throttle, rather than a violent nailing of the throttle, maybe that will help

your boss's SS has a completely different rear end suspension then the vette. IRS vs SRE.

... let off the clutch slowly, not all at once.

granted we have independent rear wheel suspension, but the solid axels do tend to spin a bit more given the same traction...at least that's the way it's always been whenever i race my buddies SS

I wasnt sure if this was a common or something that naturally occurs. Driving non sports cars my whole young life and then hopping into my current ride, has had me thinking about these things.
As I said, rolling and going mid 1st gear and then goosing it, I have at times lost traction and only believed loss of traction can occur from idle to 1st, or super high horse vechicles much greater than a stock C5.
So Im believing here its the run flats....
Thanks.

Mine is so much better without the runflats. I bought the GY D3's and man the ride and traction far out surpass the runflats.

So I guess its the tires and not the non z51 suspension or other upgrades that could might also be the problem. So I am reading all other Vette's similiar to mine will lose traction with the run flats by slamming mid 1st gear.

thanks

FYI I still had massive wheel hop after switching to a Pirelli P Zero tire. Adding a bunch more power has gotten me out of the wheel hop stage.

I had some wheel hop problems as well lowered the car as far as you can go on the stock bolts and it went away not sure if I was just lucky but might be worth a try

Default wheel hop

Do a search on that, DTE has a great thread on this subject and he posted it about 2 weeks ago. He went into many different technical problems you may be encountering. I have a 99 with 120,000 miles on and installed a LS6 clutch, DTE 410 diff, and new BFG KD G-Force 295 rear 275 front tires and first time on the track, I had wheel hop bad. Even in the water i couldnt get them to spin. On my second pass I tore the spider gears out. Thanks to 21MC and DTE, they repaired the the diff on my warranty and took care of me.
