Default Exhaust Tips

Are the exhaust tips on the Z06 exhaust chromed or polished stainless? I am in the process of cleaning up the exhaust I just bought and couldn't tell for sure if it was stainless as I wanted to take a polishing wheel to it.

Thanks Mike,
I knew the exhaust is titanium but had no idea the tips were polished titanium. Would you know if these tips can be polished with a high speed buffer like you would stainless?

Here's some "tips" from a jewelry forum (see 3rd post down). They should know.

Tino,

I'm not certain whether the Z06 exhaust tips are chromed or polished, but to me, they look more like they are polished. I do know that they are not stainless steel, as a magnet is not attracted to them.

Prior to installing my exhaust, I buffed the mufflers and tips. For the tips, I first used Tripoli compound on a spiral-sewn buffing wheel chucked in a drill. Then, I followed this with White Rouge compound using a loose section buffing wheel and they came out looking very nice. Although I didn't think it necessary, I would think you could follow up with Jewelers Rouge as a last step if you choose.

My tips had very little tarnish, so I started with the Tripoli, which is a mild compound. You may have to use a slightly more abrasive compound for the first step, if yours have more tarnish. You should be able to find the compound and buffing wheels at one of your local hardware stores.

Hope this helps and good luck!

Tino,
Yes you can polish them with a buffing wheel.

A forum member on Z06vette.com uses Mothers chrome polish and a dremel tool/ with buffing wheel, and said they come out awesome

Austenitic stainless steel are non or low magnetic steels. The tips may be a 300 series stainless steel.
