Default Help... First Test Run

Hey guys, I just did my first real blast with the new Z06. It's an '01 stock except for twin k&n induction. Stock F1SC tires with probably better than half tread (never looked at new ones yet...), competiton mode.

Lonely blacktop country road with no traffic. From the light I dropped the clutch at about 2500 and let it lose traction to get a feel for it. Got a fair bit of wheel hop I think mostly on the driver's side. Speed shifted 1st to 2nd lost traction a little, spun them some again on 3rd to 4th. Eased off at 90 mph. It felt like a very fast run.

1. Is wheel hop normal on these? What can be done to minimize it?
2. The loss of traction in every gear was a little prickly, but felt pretty controllable and I never felt like letting off. I can tell that if I hit a bad spot on the track, it could get a little nasty. Does this sound par for the course, as well?
3. I will try to minimize spin at the track, but I really wanted to see how the car reacted at the extreme (guess I should have dropped it at 5K for that... )

Anyway, I'm just trying to get a feel from you guys regarding the feel of the car during street launch. BTW: I don't street race. I raced all last season at Bandimere in my Z28 and hope to have some fun with the Z06 next season.

Thanks in advance, TJ

Wheel hop is not going away unless you change tires and that is means $$. But you will get better with your launches and enjoy every one of them

F1SC tires aren't the greatest, especially when it's cold out.

My car with Kumho MXes hooks up 10x better than my father's Z06 with stock F1SCs, and I have 50-60rwhp more than him.

I have no experience with Toyo's on my vette, but they certainly rocked on my Rx-7
