Default C5-C6 Jacking point question

Hi guys,
I have a question about lifting the entire rear of the C6. I changed the oil in the four C5s I owned, and always jacked the entire rear up in the middle of the rear cross-car brace, making sure to span the two ribs. Never had a problem.

The C6 owner's manual gives the front/rear jacking points, but does not include the center of the rear cross car brace as a point, only the cross car brace on the right or left to raise the rear right or left tire, individually.

Does the C5 owner's Manual list the center of the rear cross car brace as a lift point either, even though it is used by C5 owners to lift the entire rear as oppose to just a corner?

I'm just trying to figure out if I can safely raise the rear of the C6 at the center of the cross car brace, and haven't been able to locate the info in the C6 section. It is close to oil change time for my '05.

BTW, I have the entire C6 Owner's Manual on PDF if anyone wants it. List your email on this thread and I'll send it out to you.

Thanks for any help,

Dave

Dave, I'm assuming that you can lift it the same way...however, I thought that the C6 now has the oil drain plug on the side of the oil pan which would make it easier to drain and make it unnecessary to lift the rear to ensure a complete drain.

The C5 service manual doesn't identify the center of the rear crossmember as a jacking or support point as you see in the illustration below. Many of us do it though with no negative consequences. Please send a copy of the pdf to edbon@adelphia.net

MarkS:
The oil plug is on the side now, but I believe you still have to get under the car to get the filter off.

My C5 procedure was to drive the front of the car up on Rhino ramps, remove the drain plug and filter, place an oil pan under them, and then jack up the rear of the car to level or a bit higher than the front, let it stay like that for 10 minutes or so, then let the rear down, get back under, replace plug and filter, fill with oil, start, check for leaks, then drive it back off the ramps. I thought I might do the same withthe C6.

Patches,
Thanks for the info and the PDF is on its way to you.

BTW, I live in Atlanta myself, in Dunwoody.

Regards,
Dave
