It has been in the upper 30s at night in SoCal. Went out for a run last night - having some fun - and when I hit second - hard - there was a momentary hesitation and no traction messages.
I also noticed that during this cold weather, when I floor it during a roll and in first gear, the rear tires are spinning.
How much of this is cold weather?
How much of this is the engine loosing up?
How much of this is me getting comfortable with car and being more agressive?
Other annoyances:
Rear interior window noise and rear end leaking. Other than that my daily drives are more frequent than my orgasms!!!!
Definately traction control. If it activates for a very short period, no messages. Happens even more when cold. Good rule of thumb on warming up is no high revs until oil hits 150 (about 5 mins of driving).
Never heard of rear window noise. You sure it isn't wind noise from trunk seal? If so, get a partition, no more noise.
The tires will spin w/o making noise more than other brands. The Z06's t/c system is very non-invasive, it will allow a good bit of wheelspin before engaging, this is compared to my mom's '99 vert where it kills power instantly. Gold weather has a huge roll to play in the tires spinning, the cold rubber is hard and won't hook. Try all the same stuff again when it's 100 and you'll be surprised.
Its all due to the cooler weather. You will gain a few ponies from the cooler air, however, most of the loss in traction is due to the tires being harder along with the asphalt. The coefficient of friction between the two is less, causing the tires to spin. During a 2-3 shift (with TC on) you will get shut down for about a half second (feels like a hesitation). I live in Wisconsin so I see a large difference in driving temps (35F - 95F). The car behaves totally different in the two conditions. The car is very dangerous due to the cold weather and traction loss. In the summer, the car is easily manageable even during hard shifts.
When traction control kicks in, the DIC will display a message ("TRAC SYS ACTIVE" I think). But it's easy to miss if you're watching the road.
Hold down the Active Handling button for a few seconds until the DIC says "Competitive Driving." That will disable traction control, but leaves active handling on.
As for the cold weather-- Z06's make a lot of power, and rubber loses grip at colder temps. When it gets into the 30's and 40's, my tires will break loose near the top of second gear. First gear is basically useless.
And I don't even have any bolt-ons!
Yup - when it's below 40 or 50 degrees out the car acts like its on ice due to having "summer tires". Mine in second gear, just blipping the trottle about a quarter of the way will break loose VERY easy. Summer tires are meant to be used on warm streets.
I had a 00 Mustang GT that had the all season gatorbacks on it and it got around great in the snow and cold weather (traction control on). But the following year when I got a heavier Cobra, it had the summer BFG's on it and it was a little scary to drive when cold out and snow was definately a no no....but not anywhere near as bad as the Z.
