My 98 has the real time damping and I was wondering if anybody has ever changed it out for standard shocks. Are there any problems with the computer is my main concern. Any feedback will be appreciated.
Yes, there has been lots of discussion on doing this changeover. There is also now the option of upgrading your F45 suspension to the Magnetic Selective Ride control introduced in '03. That costs about $2K.
You can disconnect your F45 computer in the left rear storage compartment, dismount the F45 shocks and install aftermarket shocks such as Bilstein Sports or GM shocks such as Z51 or Z06 shocks but you'll need to go to a dealer or tuner with a Tech II programmer to disable the F45 option in the BCM. Some here have just installed a resistor in the disconnected sensor plug at each shock but disabling the system is simple and more elegant and trouble-free.
