Default Does your C5 do this?

I discovered that I can remove the ignition key while in the "ACC" position. Do they all do this or is there an issue with mine?

Haven't tried mine. However, my '03 owner's manual under the heading of Ignition Positions states, "OFF: This is the only position from which you can remove the key."

I have seen that happen ALOT on older GM cars. Never on a C5. But my friends 80s Camaro does that, my 90's Astro van did, my 80s Berretta did it and many of my customers cars were like that...all GM. It is not a good thing.

Not on my '01. Is your key badly worn? Just a thought.

My Z24 did that with a worn key, once I went to the spare key it wouldn't happen

My 97's key can completly comes out while the car is running and the car will run like the key is still in there. It would be a great trick to play on a Valet person. I like mine cause I start the car and take the key out and put it in the center while I drive around and I have no keys flopping around. Its pretty unique with our cars. Mine has done this for about 2 years now. I have about 130k on my car. The lock on the key has wore off is my guess.

My 1969 El Camino did that until I replaced the cylinder...

It should not be doing this. The key should only be able to be removed when the ignition is in the off position.

Somewhat related because it's the ignition lock cylinder. These are known to malfunction.

Key doesn't appear to have excessive wear, but I will try the other key. Everything operates as it should, even the CLB. I have not taken it for the recall, I am somewhat hesitant to take to them.

In my 79 Monte Carlo I could take the key out with the engine running. It was a nice feature if you needed to open the trunk with the engine running, but I guess you wouldn't need to do that in a C5. Try your other key.

Are you sure it is the ACC position? Just because the radio stays on (design feature) doesn't mean it's the ACC position.

Positive. I shut the car off and took out the key when I pulled in the garage, when I opened the door to get out the radio did not shut off as usual. It took a few minutes to realize what had happened. I was going to recycle the switch and realized it was in the ACC position when I tried to put the key back in.

I took a left hand corner a little fast in my 77 Trans Am when the keys flew out and hit my buddy in the leg. Old Gm flaw that's great for warming a car in the winter. On a C5, not so good. I just bought one and don't kno wif it's been in for the ignition lock prob, and don't know if I want to take it in from the problems that people are experiencing after the "fix".
