Default Chassis Tunnel Reinforcement plate

After talking with Jeff over at Elite Engineering, I checked out their website and saw this. On paper it makes complete sense and the price is reasonable. (as EnglandGreen would say 'shameless endorsement') Anybody using this type of product? Improvement? Adverse conditions?

there are a million threads in C5Tech about it. Very worthwhile mod. I have the one from Jeff, and am very happy with it. The car definitely feels tighter.

Same here. I have one of the first and it definitely stiffens the chassis. It's quality is top-notch.

Has anyone bolted their stock plate back on over their aftermarket
tunnel plate to keep it stock looking? Any problems?

Tks Patches

You must have an extra hard drive full of this stuff!

Sounds like I might as well do this while I have the exhaust on the ground...

Peace

Thanks for the compliment RandW!!

Patches, as ever how the heck do you get (and then keep) your chassis so spotless???? Good Lord, it looks polished!!!!!

Excellent write up as always, Patches.

EG

P.S. This was my chassis before I cleaned it

Yellow Viking, I did just that but not for that reason. Its gets HOT here in Fresno, I just got my Vette and felt the heat coming through the bottom of the car in the cool temps we have now. I mainly added the stock shield for extra heat resistance. The stock shield bolted on over the Top of my qtr inch thick alum plate does not really fit flush in the middle. It has raised bumps on the stock shield that hold it off the aftermarket plate and I think this will help with stopping the heat transfer from the cats into the car. I didnt really notice anything in the way the cars drives except for over bumps and in and out of driveways. seems to be less small squeaks and rattles. For the price you cant beat it. It reminds me of how my TA felt after I installed some bolt on subframe connectors.

This is something I definitely want. Probably do this at the same time as the x-pipe.

What's the stiffness advantage of the stainless vs. the aluminum? Obviously the aluminum is lighter. If I decide on the aluminum, what's the advantage of the 1/4 vs. 3/8? At what point would it become overkill - 1/2, 3/4?

IMO, 3/8 is an overkill and increases weight by 50% over the 1/4" plate. Stainless is stiffer for the same material thickness as aluminum. Aluminum has some possible corrosion issues when subjected to certain environments and chemicals that may be picked up on the highway. The 1/8" stainless steel plate with the ceramic coating is plenty for normal applications.
