Default Corsa catback question

Hi Guys, I need some help and advice.

I need to get a catback for my 02 Z06. I bought the car used this past summer and it already had a few small mods done to it. One of them being the exhaust. The previous owner had removed the the stock cat back and replaced it with dual tiped tail pipes. Right after the cats he had what appeared to be glass packs/resonaters for lack of a better term. I had a muffler shop do some tweeking because the system was rattling a little. Turns out the resonators were hollow, the only thing holding this beast back was the cats. He probably wanted more bark out the her. Well it definitly barks.Too loud for me in the interior and the resonance and drone is horid.

The Ti system is nice but I don't like the tips on them. I was think of putting on a Corsa Touring system with Pro Tips (WWC has a good sale right now). As I understand it the touring sounds very similar to the Ti system. I wouldn't mind a little more bite but I want it to easy to talk with someone in the cockpit. Can anyone who has compared the Ti, Corsa Touring and Indy systems lend an opinion about there loudness in the cockpit. Are the online sound bytes at Corsa realistic? I know the best thing to do is listen to system in person but I don't know of any Z owners in the Central MA area with a Corsa setup.

Thanks,
ma2kz06

I have an '01 vert with Corsa INDYS and stock h-pipe. No drone, no problem talking to passangers, quite at low RPMs, makes just enough noise when you get on it. If you like rumbling aroung town, forget the Corsas (Touring or Indy). If you like to make a little noise now and then, the Corsa's are just right. Also, just a little louder than stock during idle. I would steer clear from the Touring since I think you may not hear any difference (or very slight) over stock. I have the Pro-tips and they look great. I'd love to post a pic but haven't figured that out yet!

PS: I do get some popping during de-cel but love it! If this bothers you, consider getting an x-pipe also.

I've got Corsa Touring with Tigershark tips. It's perfect for me. I can hear it when I get on it, and still talk or listen to tunes at idle or cruise speed.

Tigershark! As I said earlier, I have the Pro-Tips but really was wanted the Tigersharks. They look great. Being as **** as I am, I was afraid that the installer might have trouble lining everything up since the four tips really fill to rear facia.

I had Corsa remove the stock Titanium system from my Z06 in September '03. I initially had them install their Pro-Series 3.5 Pace Car Edition exhaust. Frankly, I found it too loud for my taste. In addition, my wife made it very clear that she wouldn't ride in the car if they stayed on.

I called Jim Browning, Jr. at Corsa and for a reasonable sum, he did an exchange for me. I now have the Pro-Series 3.5 Touring Car Edition exhaust. It is much more to my liking. At cruise it is quiet enough to support conversation between the driver and passenger without raising our voices. When I open the throttle, it is louder than the stock Titanium system. Also, when I installed my L.G. Motorsports headers the exhaust system got louder at WOT. The level is now Perfect for me.

Good luck with your decision.

I have the Corsa Indy Pace Car system on my convertible with the Pro Tips. I also have the Corsa X-pipe.

I LOVE my Corsas!! Personally, I don't think anyone makes a better looking tip than the Pro-Tip. At idle, they rumble slightly, at cruise at about 75mph in 6th - I don't hear them at all. At WOT - all I can say is WOW!! They are loud - much louder than I had ever realized. I had a buddy drive my car while I stood on the side of the road. When he went by me at WOT - I was shocked. The Indy system is very agressive, but only when you want it to be.

If I had it to do all over again, my only choice would be the Corsa Indy Pace Car. And BTW - the sound clips are realistic, but only if you turn 'em up loud!

Thanks for the responses so far. I was wondering if you guys could tell me if they are fairly quite for 4th gear cruising around town. The rpm band I'm taking about is 1500 -2200 rpm. My current setup drones around this range (especially at 1800). I don't mind them being loud when I want to get on it, but sometimes I just want to take a casual cruise. 35-45 mph should not not make my head want to explode. Any more input on this would be great.

If you want quiet, get the touring...it's probably 20% louder than a stock Ti. The indy system is probably 50-75% louder than the Ti. What you have is probably 150-200% louder than a Ti. If you post a picture of what you have, we can tell you more about it. It could be an SLP Loudmouth, Borla XR1, or possibly a Borla Stinger (mufflers are very small), among others...

Corsa exhaust systems are specifically engineered to elinimate "drone" in the exact RPM range you mention. 4th gear at about 45mph is around 1500rpm, and they are almost silent!

I agree with you on your assessment of my current loudness level. Sounds like the Indy's might be just about right. I like the type of sound that comes from the Ti's (exotic v8) but would like it to be meaner. Sounds like the Indys might fill that bill. As far as what my current setup is I have seen pictures of the setups you mention, definily not what I have. This was a "custom" job. I think the only reason he put the empty cans on was to make it "look" like he was street leagal.

Seems like a lot of people don't like the Corsa's because they don't have that old muscle car sound. I like the sounds that come from nicely tuned Ferrari. Would you guys characterize the Indy's that way? I am really hoping to hear some Corsa's this spring when the vettes start coming back out in my area.

I have had the Indy's w/ pro tips no x pipe for 3 years and was very concerned before I did it that they would be to loud. The truth is I wish they were a little louder. IMHO you will regret the Touring, just to quit. Not enough bang for the buck. You really have to put your foot into mine to get loud and you can still have a conversation inside the car, go for it!!!!!

Hey just an idea, you could just buy a couple of glasspack style mufflers and replace the gutted ones. I have the magnaflow glasspack over the axle style catback and I love the sound.

I have the Corsa Indy system with the Pro tips. Sounds awesome . The Corsa internet sounds are very realistic if you turn the sound up on your computer. I should know I go to the website all the time just to listen to the sounds. Drives people at work nuts I have had them on for two years and have had no problems at all....and they sure sounds sweet when I hit the gas. In 4th gear and in 5th they sound is not loud, I can actually hear my wife in the vette....maybe thats not a good thing .
