I just got my x50 and I was hoping to mount it upsidedown on the crossbar behind the seats, right by the targa relase handle. (double stick tape it to the plastic cover) Is there a power and ground around there I could use to tap into? Any problems with the location other than you can't see the display? I usually go on sound alone and rarely ever look at the screen. I can reach the controls very easily and it seems like a nice high spot to mount it. Also keep it hidden and out of the sun
I mounted mine on the windshield way up high behind the mirror but below the tinting. I did the hard-wire from the passenger floor compartment but would now do the mirror cable thing if I had it to do over again.
Would the rearview mirror cause an obstruction? For power, you would probably have to run down the pillar to a hot in start or run wire, or hot at all times if you plan on manually turning it off.
I mounted mine on the driver side, next to the mirror, and ran the wires inside the header, down the A-pillar, behind the A-pillar molding, to the wires near the BCM.
I went ahead and mounted it upside down to the panel just behind the targa release and ran the cord from the cig lighter>through the shifter boot>tucked under the center console>under the carpet behind the driver seat>under the plastic piece that the x50 is mounted to and plugged it in. I liked having the mute button near the shifter but I hated the cord, so now its the best of both worlds
