I was changing my aftermarket wheels to my stocks today. I had done the passenger side... went over to the driver side... put in the adapter key... then POP!?! The pattern snapped right off the key. Any one had this happen? McGard said it would take 2 weeks before they could get me a replacement key. Is there any other way to get the lock-lugnut off my car without damaging the wheel?
Take a socket that's slightly too small and hammer it on.
Preferrably a cheap one or one that can be replaced for free (craftsman, etc).
Actually McGuard....those are the ones with the key pattern inside the lug eh? Smooth outside? Ouch.
Depending on how much room you have, you could probably get it off with vice grips. Or maybe weld a nut on there and get it off that way? Depends on the extent of your tools.
Go to Pep Boys or another auto parts place, they carry a socket with left hand threads inside of it, as you screw it onto the outside of the locking nut it grabs and screws the nut off.
