Bought mine used and was given 1 set of keys (actually, only 1 key plus the "buttons").
I'm not comfortable with only one set. Give me your recommendations for both another key and remote!
Thanks!

Check with your local dealer. They can obviously get you both items. I'm not sure if the forum dealers will do this, but if you can find out the resistance of the chip in your key, they may be able to help you out also. Give Bob at Fichtner Chevy or Gene at Fred Beans Chevy a call and see what they advise.

Any good locksmith can duplicate the key. They have a "device" that can read the resistance of the chip so that they can match it up. The fob will have tocome from GM so check with a dealer.
You can usually get the blank keys with the resistor pellet on eBay for $25, then take the blank to your local hardware store to have it cut for $1. You just have to know the VATS code for your current key so you get the right blank. Find out the code by taking it to a dealer and paying for it, or use an ohm meter to check the resistance of the pellet yourself for free. Here are the code numbers that go with each resistance.
you can buy the remotes off ebay as well i bought one used for $2.00 plus shipping just make sure the part number is the same and the owners manual tells you how to program it
I got a reputable lock and key shop here in town to do a new key and I found a like new remote on Ebay for a fraction of what the dealer wanted. Very easy to program the remote using the owners manual.

The locksmith will cut a much better key than the dealer. Remotes are readily available on EBAY , just make sure you have the exact numbers on the cack.

I went to the dealer for the key, but used Ebay for the fob. You just have to match your numbers on the back of your Fob to the ones they are selling. It doesn't matter if all the fobs are labelled number 1, 2 or 3 (I think all mine say 1).
I found a locksmith that does this for $30.00. How do you go by finding the resistance, never done this. Any instructions, I have the meter.
You read the resistance across the chip on the key. As it reads, it will match up with one of the 15 resistance choices listed earlier in this thread. You get the corrosponding VAT number from the resistance reading.
