From: I'm not quite middle aged and I only own one gold chain! San Jose CA
My Z06 is stock mechanically...I have the shorty antenna, partition and CAGS defeat...oh yes and a new BPP shifter on the way. I tried to stay stock........really I did!
My forum name is Stock Man that hasn't changed but the car certainly has. The one thing I don't change is the engine. It stays as I got it. The rest is up for debate.
I might as well chime in here while I can, as very soon I won't qualify. Bought my 98 last week, had it 9 days now and love it, LOVE IT, love it, except for poor headlights [ Thats a DOT thing, not Corvette's fault ] Anyway, its a stock A4, with Lloyd's mats I just installed. and the stainless steel letter inserts on the back panel that were already there. Stock won't last long....Seat covering has been ordered, Bilsteins are going to be ordered very soon, with Hotchkiss sway bars following, and the lighting will changed soon too. I am researching air induction/filter options, and a freer breathing exhaust ....a nicer tone would be a 'plus' along with a few HP. She rides on BFG G-Force tires, so if you don't count the non-OEM GoodYear runflats being missing, she is pretty much a stocker...for a VERY short while. Oh, yeah, I'm also going to black out the recessed portion of the rear fascia, above the tailpipes. I have seen several cars that have had it done and really like the shape it defines. Jennifer
Motor is stock - some cosmetic mods to the out and inside.
Love the car!!!! Don't really need to change it all that much - the only thing I am thinking about is an exhaust.
Stock just isn't fun enough. Cheaper true but not fun enough.
I disagree... Having a car this fast (04 Z06) that also handles and stops in its stock form is a dream come true..
The car has a fine balance of performance without any mods. On the track the car is usually looking for a driver who can take advantage of its stock capabilities.
Its nice not having warranty worries or having to add mods that don't work well or upset the balance of the car...
After my many years of buying cars and modifying them, I am pleased to have one that is good enough in stock form.

Mine looks stock. Honest.
Added door sill plates and hood seal since I've owned it.
I've been collecting rotors and other replacement parts and I keep them in the garage for that rainy day.
Nothing much I can do to the engine except SC it I guess.
I had a '98 Trans Am (LS1 V8 baby!) that I just sold in October right after I bought my '00 C5 Torch Red Coupe. I never found a good reason to modify it--I thought it was already way fast. Um...until I bought the Vette! Now I'm learning about all the different mods for C5's, and I have to admit that while it is already crazy fast (I find myself saying this on a daily basis) and nearly perfect, there are 4 things I am considering:
1) Totally new stereo. The Bose system has a head unit that is poorly designed regarding usability while driving--it has little or no tactile feedback on the buttons (I can't tell what I'm pressing by touch, so I have to take my eyes off the road--bad, bad, bad). I could probably live with that but the passenger side speaker sounds blown. :-(
2) Window valet module I read about here. Apparently it just plugs in and then pressing unlock on the key FOB 3 times in rapid succession lowers or raises both windows--very cool.
3) Seat heaters. Just one of those things I had on my wish list of features on my next car. I live in Bellevue, WA and while it almost never snows here, it does get chilly once in a while. Plus it might make me more likely to take the top out more often. :-)
4) Neoprene seat covers. I never would have thought of this, but I saw one on this forum somewhere (or a link to it?) and I think they look pretty sharp.
So no engine mods just yet (did I mention that it's already crazy fast?), but a friend just left a copy of "Corvette Quarterly" on my desk and once I see ads for engine mods, my desire to do them may increase. :-)
BTW - If anybody knows of a stereo installer in Bellevue, WA (or Seattle area) with experience putting them in C5 vettes, please email me. I had a different thread about my problems with the local Best Buy and I still haven't taken the time to solve the problem yet, but I plan to very soon.
