Default Trunk Release. HELP!!!

I was reading in another post about some guys having trouble getting a decent lift when they pop the rear hatch lid. My 02 has the same problem. Anybody know a fix for this other than adjusting the stops up?

Sometimes mine does that, and I just open and close one of my doors firmly with the windows up and it just pops the trunk open.

This is another case showing what a great resource the forum is! I had the same problem and came across an earlier post that suggested using white lithium grease from a spray can on the hinge mechanism. I doubted this would work because my hinges looked pristine, BUT IT DID!

I sprayed it on the hinges, wiped up the excess, and it now works perfectly. The spray flows really well into the hinges, then dries to a grease like consistency.

WD-40 worked for me about 6 months ago, no issues yet.

I had the same problem with my rear hatch lid.
All it took was a little lubrication to the hinge areas and it pops perfect now.

Lube only helped mine for a short period of time. I added 2 springs on the lift shocks for an extra boost and it works great now. I picked these up a ACE Hardware (actually just one - I cut it in two) and then spun them on the shaft. The size I went with was a little under 2" long and they look to be 1/2" wide; about the same size as the strut. My trunk now pops great, cold or hot!
Just something to think about if lubing is NOT working. I can take a photo of the mod if anyone is interested.
